A Day in the Life of a Independent Examiner


Provides services to patients who are involuntarily detained under state law at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC). Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients throughout the various stages of the statutory process to make clinical recommendations to the patient, family and court as required by the Wyoming Statute Title 25 process.

Here is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Responsible for completing a comprehensive clinical assessment of patients who have been involuntarily detained under Title 25.
  • Gathers pertinent clinical, psychosocial and risk history from the patient, the patients chart documentation, the patients significant others as appropriate, other providers and the treating clinical team to include the medical or psychiatric attending.
  • Attends clinical rounds and staffings regarding the involuntary patient and consult with hospital counsel as needed on legal issues.
  • Responsible for preparing and presenting the court report under Wyoming Mental Health Statute Title 25-10 -109 and 25-10-110 ( with psychiatry oversight for the 110 report) based upon the comprehensive clinical assessment to include least restrictive and most therapeutic clinical options for care.
  • Liases with The Laramie County Attorneys Office as needed and provide clinical information regarding involuntarily detained patients as needed.
  • Tracks his/her productivity on a monthly basis.
  • Participates in appropriate professional development both through hospital provided and independent means.
  • Partners in the scheduling process for the position and contribute to other quality assurance activities or shared governance activities within the health system when appropriate.

  • Ability to effectively partner with clinical team members, support staff, the County Attorney’s Office, Court Commissioner’s, patients counsel and the community as appropriate
