Job DetailsJob Location: DBS Headquarters - Chicago, IL 60606Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeSalary Range: $103,000.00 - $110,000.00 SalaryPOSITION GOAL: The Civil Project Engineer I will perform project management functions, including team coordination, monitoring scope/schedule/budget, invoicing, proposal preparation, staff planning, interdisciplinary coordination, and client interaction. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, sewers, bridges, channels, dams, airports, etc.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •   Perform and manage fundamental design and modeling tasks, including permit applications, CAD, or GIS work. •   Plan and formulate engineering program and organize project staff according to project requirements. •   Analyze the design effectiveness and structural reliability of major projects including assessing and testing materials •   Estimate costs including personnel and material needs, assist in preparing proposals and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. •   Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. •   Analyze and correlate scientific and engineering data and recognize discrepancies in results using a series of related detailed steps or processes. •   Review, evaluate, and verify the accuracy and viability of designs, data, reports, memoranda, and other documents before submitting them to the next review level. •   Responsible for proper quality assurance and quality control on projects to ensure projects meet Company, Industry, and Client standards and expectations. •   Adhere to project deadlines and keep the Supervisor informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments. •   May have a responsibility for ensuring a quality product is produced in accordance with the schedule. •   Perform other duties as assigned.  COMPETENCIES: •   Ability to prepare schematics & models, perform analysis & engineering calculations, develop plans, specifications & estimates, prepare technical engineering reports for various projects.  •   Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project, such as product design, preparation of specifications and product testing, in accordance with engineering disciplines of staff. •   Must possess excellent budgeting and cost containment skills •   Ability to stay organized and possess extreme attention to detail skills •   Strong interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills  QualificationsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering. Licensure: Professional Engineer Job Classification: Exempt (Salaried) Report to: Project Engineer – Team Lead Experience: Typically 8+ years. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Technical Skills: Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D. Experience with Bentley Suite of products, including MicroStation, ProjectWise, and AutoCAD (Preferred). Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically IDOT and Illinois Tollway (Preferred). Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee lower-level engineers Physical Demands: Ability to sit and operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions. Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift equipment or objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds. This position will require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some of the typical tasks and duties associated with construction. Required to work in an indoor and outdoor environment including construction sites and proximity to traffic. Travel required, must be able to travel to client/job sites as needed. Valid driver's license is required. Working Environment: A general office environment that may require periods of sitting at a computer. The environmental conditions generally include ambient inside temperature, lighting, and noise level. Occasional outdoor work may also be required throughout the year. Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.
