The Manager of the Oncology Rapid Assessment Clinic (ORAC) provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for the ambulatory oncology urgent care program. The manager is responsible for developing and sustaining a high-performing multidisciplinary team that delivers timely, evidence-based assessment and treatment for oncology patients experiencing acute treatment-related symptoms or complications. 

 

This leader oversees daily clinic operations, staffing, quality, patient safety, clinical practice, and program growth while partnering closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leadership, pharmacy, laboratory, infusion services, care coordination, and hospital operations. The manager ensures ORAC functions as a critical component of the Cancer Service Line by improving patient access, reducing emergency department utilization, preventing avoidable admissions, and enhancing the overall patient experience. 

 

The position may be filled by a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with progressive leadership experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • For APRN candidates: Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse program.
  • Current Illinois RN license or eligible for licensure. 
  • For APRN candidates:  current APRN license or eligible for licensure.
  • National certification in a specialty area.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP), or other oncology specialty certification strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive nursing experience required, with a minimum of 3 years in hematology/oncology.
  • 2+ years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Proven track record in ambulatory oncology, oncology infusion, oncology urgent care, emergency nursing, critical care, or hospital-based oncology acute care strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary teams, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical operations. 
  • Expertise in oncology symptom management, oncologic emergencies, and treatment-related toxicities.
  • Union experience helpful. 

     

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides daily operational and clinical leadership for the Oncology Rapid Assessment Clinic (ORAC), ensuring the delivery of safe, timely, high-quality, patient-centered care for oncology patients requiring urgent evaluation and treatment.

  • Recruits, develops, mentors, and evaluates nursing and clinical staff to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement, and professional excellence.

  • Leads quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing patient outcomes, clinical quality, safety, access, and operational performance.

  • Partners with Cancer Service Line leadership to advance the strategic growth and operational development of the Oncology Rapid Assessment Clinic.

  • Develops staffing plans based on patient demand, clinical acuity, and operational priorities while maintaining productivity targets.

  • Builds strong collaborative relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
