Role Summary

The Consultant supports public sector advisory engagements for state and local government entities and other public sector organizations. This role is ideal for professionals with 1.5+ years of relevant consulting, advisory, audit, or assurance experience who are looking to grow their skills while contributing to high-quality client service across internal audit, risk advisory, and management consulting engagements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of public sector advisory engagements under the direction of senior team members.
  • Perform data analysis, testing, documentation, stakeholder interviews, and process walkthroughs to support audit and consulting objectives.
  • Prepare workpapers, analyses, reports, and client-ready deliverables in accordance with MGO standards.
  • Assist with project planning, task tracking, and deliverable management to help ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to research, proposal support, and internal practice initiatives as needed.

 

Advisory Exposure

  • Support internal audits, performance audits, business process reviews, internal control assessments, and operational improvement projects.
  • Develop an understanding of public sector operations, governance structures, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate on projects that help government organizations improve efficiency, accountability, and service delivery.

 

Team & Professional Development

  • Work closely with consultants, senior consultants, managers, and client stakeholders.
  • Receive coaching and mentorship to strengthen technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • 1.5+ years of experience in consulting, advisory, public accounting, audit, assurance, risk advisory, or a related professional services environment.
  • Public sector consulting or government-related experience preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated interest in public sector consulting, government operations, or public service improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in obtaining a professional certification such as CIA, CFE, PMP, CISA, CGAP, CRMA, or similar.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 5-25%, based on client and project needs. 

 

Compensation: $78,000 - $100,000 base salary annually, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualification
