Deckhand

Seasonal | Spring–November 2026 | Start Dates: March-June 

Position Summary

Shoreline Sightseeing is seeking dedicated, safety-focused Deckhands to join our Marine Crew for the 2026 season. As a Deckhand, you’ll work closely with the Captain and fellow crew members to ensure smooth vessel operations and, most importantly, the safety and enjoyment of our passengers.

This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, thrive in a team environment, and are interested in gaining valuable maritime experience on Chicago’s waterways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Captain with vessel operations and safety procedures

  • Support docking, line handling, and passenger boarding/disembarking

  • Perform light maintenance and general housekeeping aboard the vessel

  • Uphold all safety and security standards in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations

  • Understand and execute emergency procedures when needed

  • Collaborate with the Marine Crew to deliver a seamless guest experience

  • Greet and assist passengers, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the tour

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready vessel

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Commitment to safety and exceptional guest service

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Physical capability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and climb ladders

  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations
