Director, Global Compliance & Packaging Safety, sits within our tms, Category Services Packaging – Global Compliance & Safety 

 

The Director, Global Compliance & Safety is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing global regulatory compliance, product stewardship, and safety across multiple product categories and international markets. This position leads the Global Compliance and Packaging Safety Team and is responsible for functional areas including product stewardship and product testing. The role ensures products meet applicable global safety standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals.

 

The Director also leads the Global Anticipatory Issues Management (AIM) Framework, identifying and addressing emerging issues that may impact regulatory compliance or business continuity.

 

Additionally, the role provides strategic oversight of the Supply Chain Human Rights Program, driving responsible sourcing and ethical manufacturing practices.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ORGANIZATION

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Team & Functional Leadership
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team responsible for product stewardship and product testing across global regions.
    • Provide strategic and operational leadership for compliance and packaging safety functions across:
      • North America
      • Europe
      • India, Middle East & Africa
      • Asia-Pacific & Southeast Asia
      • Greater China
      • Australia & New Zealand
    • Ensure compliance with international regulatory standards and guidelines for:
    • Single-use food packaging
    • Reusable food packaging
    • Gloves & face masks/coverings
    • Operational supplies
    • Promotional items

 

  1. Global Anticipatory Issues Management (AIM)
    • Lead the design and execution of the AIM Framework, ensuring early identification, assessment, and mitigation of emerging regulatory, safety, and reputational risks.
    • Partner with internal compliance colleagues, supplier partners, and external experts to strategize, develop and execute mitigation actions resulting from Global AIM efforts.
    • Partner with cross-functional and regional teams to address critical compliance and product safety issues in a proactive manner.

 

  1. Supply Chain Human Rights Oversight
    • Provide oversight and strategic direction for the Supply Chain Human Rights Program, focusing on manufacturing sites identified within the McDonald’s SCHR framework.
    • Ensure alignment with corporate human rights, ESG, and responsible sourcing policies.
    • Support supplier engagement, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives related to labor and human rights practices.

 

  1. Global Regulatory & Compliance Strategy
    • Monitor evolving global regulations and translate requirements into actionable business policies and processes.
    • Lead the development of internal compliance guidelines, risk assessments, and training programs.
    • Represent the company in relevant industry forums, regulatory bodies, and standard-setting organizations.

 

     5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

    • Report on global compliance metrics, program performance, and key risk indicators to senior leadership.
    • Drive process improvements and innovation in compliance systems, documentation, and audit readiness.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Regulatory Affairs, Environmental Health & Safety, Legal, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO HAVE

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance or product stewardship, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity
  • Experience supporting foodservice packaging, fast food applications, and reusable packaging systems

 

 

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of global regulatory environments related to food-contact materials and personal protective equipment.
  • Experience in product stewardship and regulatory compliance
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional and international teams.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex compliance programs across diverse geographies.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Experienced in identifying and managing regulatory risks in a fast-changing environment.
  • Fluency in English required

 

Work Environment & Travel:

  • Based in Chicago (USA)
  • Willingness to travel (~5-10%).

 

Direct Reports:

Will have global direct reports.

This role ensures the company’s packaging meets stringent safety and compliance standards across Europe, supports sustainable packaging transformation, and plays a proactive role in helping the organization navigate a rapidly evolving regulatory and societal landscape, protecting brand trust, enabling innovation, and driving global alignment on packaging safety policies and practices

 

Starting Salary Between: $165,000-$185,000
