What You Will Be Doing - Handle a diverse caseload of general liability insurance defense matters, with an emphasis on specialty lines.
- Defend clients in D&O, E&O, and other professional liability matters.
- Manage cases from initial assignment through resolution, including investigation, discovery, depositions, motions, negotiations, and trial when necessary.
- Analyze liability, damages, coverage issues, and litigation exposure.
- Develop and execute effective litigation and defense strategies.
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
- Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings, mediations, and other proceedings.
- Communicate regularly with clients, insurance carriers, claims professionals, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Manage case deadlines, budgets, and billable-hour requirements.
- Work collaboratively with other attorneys and legal professionals to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
- Contribute to the continued growth of the firm's specialty-lines practice.
Experience You Will Need Required - 5+ years of experience practicing insurance defense in Illinois.
- Active Illinois Bar admission.
- Strong background in general liability defense litigation.
- Experience independently managing litigation matters.
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet the firm's 1,950 annual billable-hour requirement.
Preferred - Experience with Directors & Officers (D&O) litigation.
- Experience with Errors & Omissions (E&O) / professional liability matters.
- Specialty-lines insurance defense experience.
- Indiana Bar admission is preferred.
- Existing book of business or demonstrated ability to develop business.
- Experience working directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and sophisticated corporate clients.
