JOB SUMMARY

The General Manager provides direction and support to the operations, facility, business and program facets of The Salvation Army Kroc Center.  This individual is responsible for making sure that the Kroc Center is used to its full capacity, aligned with the mission of The Salvation Army and that it is financially sound.  The General Manager is directly responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Kroc center under the direction of the Kroc Officers.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a key member of the operations and program team, ensure the goals of the facility are accomplished through high-quality programming, sound fiscal management, mission-driven success, and a fully operational facility. Responsibilities include:

  1. Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate annual operating budgets, ensuring goals and objectives are met.
  2. Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of fiscally sound programs that operate within budgetary requirements.
  3. Provide oversight and direction to program directors, operational managers, and business managers regarding budgeting, purchasing, staffing, human resource requirements, and business development.
  4. Ensure effective staff scheduling that provides appropriate service and coverage levels.
  5. Develop and manage capital improvement plans and projects in conjunction with Kroc Officers, Divisional Headquarters, and Territorial Headquarters.
  6. Ensure all purchasing, supply, and equipment requirements are met.
  7. Implement and enforce facility safety, child safety, and maintenance policies and procedures.
  8. Collaborate with Human Resources to develop, evaluate, and maintain staff policies, procedures, and the operations manual in accordance with Salvation Army directives and regulations.
  9. Conduct regular reviews of Kroc Standards to maintain a Gold Level Kroc Center rating
  10. Evaluate and direct venue/business to ensure compliance with Salvation Army policy and the RJKCCC mission while also optimizing financial and service performance.
    • Establish methods for quality control that evaluate work performed by staff to ensure consistent high quality Guest service.
    • Perform departmental evaluations in a timely manner.
    • Develop and maintain new job descriptions for all reporting departments.
  1. Provide leadership and oversight to the day-to-day operational activities throughout the RJKCCC campus.
    • Work with the DHQ IT and the Marketing and Communication Director to ensure the correct operation of the low voltage operations of the Kroc Facility
    • Work with the operational and management team to accomplish problem-solving necessary for daily operational success of the Kroc Center
    • Work in cooperation with Human Resources to process all personnel hire, change, and termination cases.
    • Work with staff on the overall marketing and promotion of the center.
    • Work with staff on customer service and staff training.
    • Work with staff on building maintenance/cleaning/safety and risk management.
  1. In conjunction with the Senior Kroc Officer, ensure that the shared facility resources are allocated properly.
  2. Meetings and Communication.
    • Meet regularly with the Kroc Officers to coordinate operational issues.
    • Under the direction of the Kroc Center Officers, meet with the Leadership team regularly in setting priorities and recommendations for the Kroc Center.
    • Meet regularly with the RJKCCC Leadership Team and Kroc Officers to participate in setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
    • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings

14.    Review all contracts with vendors and professional service agreements, as well as contracts/agreements for long-term space rental and give appropriate recommendations to Kroc Officer and normal Salvation Army approval channels.

 

15.       The Facilities Department is managed in a manner that meets its objectives and assignments.

    • Provide for the development of operational manuals for each venue of the Center.
    • Ensure the purchase of equipment and supplies in compliance with budgetary considerations.
    • Advise in setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, purchase of supplies and replacement of facilities and equipment.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Recreation Management or related field. Non-Profit Management experience and master’s degree a plus.

 

Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in:

  • A position as General Manager, or a Director of Operations and Business of a comprehensive recreational, sports, educational, athletic facility.
  • The development and administration of facility budgets of at least $3 million.
  • Management of a comprehensive indoor recreation facility of at least 50,000 square feet.
  • Participated in a team or have led a sales focused organization.

Skills/Abilities:

  • A leadership style that fosters team relationships to accomplish objectives and solve problems and crisis in a professional manner.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities and programs in a constantly changing environment.
  • A communication and management style that exhibits the principles and values of the Salvation Army.
  • Must have a valid Illinois Drivers’ License and insured transportation and be able to meet The Salvation Army’s approved driving requirements
  • The demonstrated ability to speak before large and small groups with poise and enthusiasm.
  • The ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, promoting safety and excellence.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, with strong Microsoft Excel skills to design and update spreadsheets.
  • An understanding of how to supervise staff, community service workers, volunteers and participants of varying education levels and diverse cultural backgrounds Must be able to manage projects, priorities and programs in a constantly changing environment.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

 

JOB LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do moderate physical work.  To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.  At times they will be expected to participate in community center activities.  The work environment for this position includes a community center environment with a medium-to-high noise level.  This employee may be required to drive on occasion.  Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
