Description
Shive-Hattery’s Chicago, IL Office has an immediate opening for an Architect or Interior Designer with 5–10 years of professional experience, focused primarily on interior-driven Workplace projects. This is a full-time opportunity for a motivated professional who is licensed or actively pursuing architectural licensure or NCIDQ certification and is eager to grow within a collaborative and growth-oriented studio environment.
Working closely with a Project Manager, this role contributes design expertise across all phases of interior-focused workplace projects, supporting high-quality design outcomes, client satisfaction, and strong business results.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited professional degree program with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design
- 5–10 years of professional experience, with demonstrated familiarity in interior Workplace design
- Registered Architect or Interior Designer, or actively pursuing architectural licensure or NCIDQ certification
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit (required)
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and SketchUp
- Demonstrated expertise in workplace test-fit design, including space planning, adjacency studies, and iterative layout development
- Solid understanding of architectural specifications, International Building Code (IBC), life safety codes, and ADA requirements
- Experience with furniture and finish selection is preferred, but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of independent problem solving

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to design discussions, idea generation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving
- Produce and communicate design concepts through drawings, models, and 3D visualizations
- Manage the production and coordination of design development and technical documentation
- Develop and document design and detailing directly in Revit
- Apply knowledge of programming, planning, and building performance to support design decisions
- Lead or participate in client and project meetings with architects, interior designers, consultants, and other design professionals
- Serve as a representative of Shive-Hattery with clients and contractors throughout project delivery
- Direct, coordinate, and mentor junior staff, supporting their technical and professional development
- Collaborate with project leadership to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and design intent
