This is a hybrid role based out of our Chicago/O’Hare Area office, with an expectation of being onsite three days per week. Applicants must reside within a 100-mile radius of the Chicago, IL office to be considered.

Manager, Information Technology

Manages day-to-day operations of the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and related platforms for the SOA and Actuarial Foundation, ensuring that the IT services meet the needs of the organizations today and in the future while maintaining fiscal responsibility of the SOA’s IT finances and effectively managing business risk. This is a great opportunity for an experienced infrastructure leader who wants the best of both worlds: the ability to lead and develop a team while staying technically hands-on. You'll have broad ownership across cloud, Microsoft 365, networking, infrastructure, service delivery, vendors, and IT projects within a mission-driven nonprofit organization.


What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a team consisting of a Senior Systems Administrator and two Systems Administrators
  • Oversee day-to-day IT infrastructure and end-user technology operations
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365/Azure environments, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID, Intune, and related services
  • Manage AWS infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, IAM, backups, resource optimization, and security best practices
  • Oversee network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, firewalls, and internet connectivity
  • Manage physical office and server-room infrastructure, including servers, networking, storage, UPS, telecommunications, and conference-room/AV technology
  • Oversee the internal Help Desk, ticketing system, SLAs, escalations, and end-user support
  • Remain hands-on and assist with technical troubleshooting, system administration, and escalated support when needed
  • Oversee hardware/software procurement, licensing, inventory, and IT asset lifecycle management
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives
  • Manage technology vendors, service providers, contracts, and infrastructure-related projects
  • Assist with IT budgeting, invoicing, forecasting, and cost optimization
  • Partner with cybersecurity stakeholders to ensure security best practices are followed across infrastructure, cloud, network, and endpoint environments
  • Coach and develop team members through performance management, training, and career development


What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience
  • 5+ years of people management/supervisory experience
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365
  • Hands-on AWS cloud infrastructure experience
  • Strong networking knowledge, including firewalls, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and network troubleshooting
  • Experience managing physical IT/server-room infrastructure
  • Experience leading systems administration, infrastructure, and/or end-user support teams
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and cloud security best practices
  • Ability and willingness to remain hands-on technically while leading a team
  • Experience managing IT projects, vendors, and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, end users, vendors, and organizational leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent applicable experience


Nice to Have

  • Fortinet firewall experience
  • Aruba networking/Wi-Fi experience
  • Veeam and/or Druva backup experience
  • Experience building and supporting Microsoft Teams environments
  • Experience with Azure, Entra ID, Intune, Purview, and related Microsoft technologies
  • Experience supporting additional SaaS/business applications



WORK ENVIRONMENT (environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. 

  • Hybrid office environment
  • Data Center (environmentally controlled area between 60 and 65 degrees)
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours
  • Occasional overnight travel for continuing education or training

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES AND COORDINATION required to perform the functions of this job.

  • This position currently directly supervises the following staff:
    • Senior Systems Administrator
    • Two (2) Systems Administrators
