Role PurposeĀ 

The Manager, State Analytics & Decision Support serves as a strategic finance partner to Product State Managers andĀ related leaders, translating financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights that support profitable growth. This role sits at the intersection of FinanceĀ and Product, with a primary focus on state-level performance, tradeoff analysis, and forward-lookingĀ decisionĀ support.Ā 

KeyĀ Responsibilities:Ā 

State-Level Financial LeadershipĀ 

Own Financial analysis and decision support for our portfolio of states, including:Ā 

  • New business growth, retention, and mixĀ 

  • Rate and underwriting impacts/measurementĀ 

  • Profitability and expense dynamicsĀ 

  • Partner closely with Product State Managers to:Ā 

  • Evaluate performance drivers and emerging trendsĀ 

  • Quantify tradeoffs between growthĀ and profit-driven actionsĀ 

  • Support data-backed decisions at the state-levelĀ 

Analytics & Insight GenerationĀ 

Develop andĀ maintainĀ state-levelĀ analytics, including:Ā 

  • Policy, premium, and profitabilityĀ results/outlooksĀ 

  • Sensitivity analyses tied to rate, marketing, or underwriting changesĀ 

  • Move beyond reporting to deliver insight-led storytelling that connects financial outcomes to operational leversĀ 

  • Develop analytical frameworks and tools that enableĀ decision-focused insights and storytellingĀ 

  • IdentifyĀ opportunities to improve analytical frameworks, data usability, and insight timelinessĀ 

Senior Leader &Ā Stakeholder PartnershipĀ 

Serve as a trusted thought partner to:Ā 

  • Product leadersĀ 

  • State Management support teamsĀ 

  • Cross-functionalĀ partners (e.g., Marketing, Competitive Intelligence)Ā 

  • SupportĀ financial and businessĀ readouts by distilling complex analyses into clear, decision-ready narrativesĀ 

  • Anticipate questions and proactively surface risks and opportunities at a state levelĀ 

Process Improvement & Capability BuildingĀ 

  • Enhance consistency and rigor across finance’s state analyticsĀ 

  • Contribute to the evolution of FP&AĀ toward a high-level advisory, forward-looking modelĀ 

  • Collaborate with peers to share best practices and elevate analytics maturity across the organizationĀ 

People Leadership & DevelopmentĀ 

  • Lead, mentor, and developĀ team membersĀ supporting state-level analyticsĀ 

  • Set clear expectations around analytical quality, business partnership, and ownershipĀ 

  • Build bench strength by coaching team members toward broaderĀ understanding of the business,Ā economics, and trade-offs between decisionsĀ 


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field (MBA and/or CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years in FP&A/Finance.
  • Must have experience working in P&C insurance.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • PowerBI experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen and proven track record demonstrating ability to deeply understand the needs of the business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to justify assumptions and develop business cases.
  • Agility to manage changing expectations and priorities.
  • Previous experience as a people leader required.

Location: Chicago, IL or Bethesda, MD; This is a hybrid role with a 3-day in office requirement

Annual Salary

$115,825.00 - $189,625.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
