Position Purpose:
The Nurse Educator is a professional nurse who provides consultation to nursing personnel and conducts and coordinates educational experiences. The responsibilities encompass assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical skills development, in-services and continuing education programs at the Unit and/or Department level. Key Job Activities: Participates on select Nursing Leadership/Hospital Committees. Maintains documents and records in compliance with departmental, organizational and external agency requirements, i.e., in-service attendance, competency records/ skills checklists, etc. Maintains confidentiality of records and makes them available only to authorized individuals
Compiles reports related to progress toward attainment of Departmental goals, i.e., in-service productivity, competency compliance, etc. Serves as a resource regarding educational issues to Nursing/Hospital Departments throughout Sinai Health System. Addresses Quality issues on the Unit and at the Department level. Serves as a resource in obtaining educational materials necessary to conduct educational activities. Clinical o Promotes adherence to Standards of Nursing Practice by caregivers. o Keeps abreast of current changes in Nursing Policies and Procedures. o Coordinates in-service education to assist caregivers in acquiring, maintaining and/or increasing their aptitude to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
o Teaches and evaluates educational programs associated with new procedures, equipment, policy or protocol. o Functions as a clinical mentor by establishing relationships which serve to guide, orient, coach and demonstrate expertise for the purpose of advancing practice. o Maintains current clinical/educational knowledge and skills through attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops. o Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards.
