Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Nursing Support Assistant (NSA) in the Supplemental Staff (Float) Department. Here, you will perform assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

 

Supports the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and healthcare team. In a sitter capacity, provides continuous observation and accurate documentation of assigned patient activities to promote safety and quality care. Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and demonstrates flexibility by floating to all inpatient adult and pediatric units, including both Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of duties
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids
  • Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients
  • Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
  • Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
  • Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment
  • Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
  • Initiates CPR and calls Dr. Cart
  • Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
