As a OR Scheduling Coordinator, you will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of surgical scheduling operations. This role partners closely with physicians, patients, and office teams to ensure accurate, timely scheduling, proper documentation, and seamless case preparation within the EMR system. In addition to managing surgical block schedules and required consents, this position is cross-trained to support front desk operations and insurance verification, contributing to a smooth and efficient patient experience.

Essential Job Functions
Â
- Coordinate and schedule surgical cases, prepare consents, and maintain surgical block schedules to ensure efficient operating room utilization.
- Communicate with surgeons’ offices to verify patient records, CPT codes, and procedural details; proactively coordinate and communicate schedule changes with appropriate departments and staff to optimize room and equipment usage.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and registration information; obtain pre-authorizations and approvals; communicate with insurance carriers; and prepare accurate good faith estimates.
- Maintain effective working relationships with physicians, leadership, and staff across the Medical Center; collaborate with UCM entities to gather information, resolve issues, support projects, and fulfill committee or departmental assignments as directed.
- Support physician credentialing processes for both the Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) by partnering with the UCM Medical Staff Office to ensure timely and accurate completion of required documentation.
- Perform front desk responsibilities, including patient registration and payment collection.
- Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Â
- 2+ years of relevant experience in healthcare setting
- Minimum 1 year of work experience in surgery scheduling
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to utilize electronic medical record system(s)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
- A thorough understanding and knowledge of medical terminology, different surgery types, CPT codes, medical equipment

Education
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Â
Licensure
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification must be obtained within 30-days of hire.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
