What You'll Do

Instruction & IEP Management

  • Serve as the primary instructor for students with identified learning needs across a variety of settings
  • Develop and implement annual IEPs, including present levels of performance, goals, objectives, and required services
  • Provide research-based, specialized instruction aligned to each student's academic, social, and emotional needs
  • Monitor and document student progress to ensure high rates of growth
  • Complete and maintain compliance-related Special Education documentation in accordance with state and federal mandates

Classroom & Culture

  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Maintain a student-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive approach to instruction and classroom management
  • Support clear behavioral expectations with responses that respect student dignity
  • Plan and supervise paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student teachers as needed
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and programming

Collaboration & Professionalism

  • Prioritize collaboration with IEP team members, related service providers, and school leadership
  • Maintain regular attendance and participate in staff, department, and committee meetings
  • Model professionalism and serve as a positive representative of the school community

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Valid Professional Educator License (state of employment: IL or MI)
  • Valid Special Education License (state of employment: IL or MI)
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs
  • Strong classroom management and differentiated instruction skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse social-emotional, cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
  • Comfortable with the physical demands of the role (occasional lifting, kneeling, standing/walking for extended periods)
