Renaissance prevents and ends homelessness for vulnerable Chicagoans, providing a range of proven solutions including prevention, outreach, rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, behavioral health care, and clinical case management. Renaissance is proud to have earned the Four-Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator and the Platinum Transparency rating from Candid.  JOB SUMMARY The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing accounts receivable and payable and the day-to-day accounting tasks, including but not limited to bank and account reconciliations, assist with the monthly close, yearly audit, annual budgeting process and 990 tax returns, and all other duties as assigned. This position will evolve into taking on responsibilities that will allow the Chief Financial Officer to spend a greater portion of their time on financial statement preparation and analysis, budget vs. actual variances and forecasting.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for all facets of Accounts Payable (entering invoices, monthly rent rolls, check runs, Amex charges, setting up auto payments, processing participant utility payments, filing and mailing payments). Post cash disbursements to general ledger from bank account, investigate payable discrepancies, provide a/p aging and open item reports to management. Responsible for Accounts Receivable (Open and sort mail, enter, post and photocopy rental payments in FundEz, and provide Housing Accountant with copy of payments, record and post cash receipts from bank statements/Grant Manager into FundEZ and filing. Work in conjunction with Housing Accountant to ensure rental payment and receipts are recorded in the general ledger. Assist with monthly closing in accordance with the month end close process. Complete monthly bank reconciliations for approval by the Director of Finance. Complete monthly general journal entries for prepaid, recurring, adjustments, reclasses, account reconciliations and entries developed by other finance staff for approval by the Director of Finance. Assist with the annual budgeting process. Assist with the preparation of the yearly audit and 990 tax returns (audit schedules, account reconciliations, audit support, SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) CYFER, CFR, Grant Close-out Report. Assist with the preparation of reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development and Program Directors. Cross train with the Grants Manager and Housing Accountant. All other duties assigned. QualificationsRequirements A bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in accounting (degree must be from a credible college or university). Minimum of 3 yrs. experience in the field of accounting, Nonprofit accounting preferred, A-122 and GAAP. Must be skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have effective communication and critical-thinking skills, detailed oriented, organized, problem-solving, the ability to work independently or in a team environment, good work ethics, the willingness to work the hours necessary to meet deadlines such as monthly close, funding, audit, etc. Knowledge of accounting processes and advanced mathematical skills Personal qualities, integrity, credibility and dedication to the organization’s mission.
