CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan a STEM program involving demonstration, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimum learning.
• Demonstrates STEM concepts by use of STEM apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aides.
• Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
• Instruct students on proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, STEM equipment, and plant and animal life.
• Provide for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools.  Makes minor adjustments and requests for repairs as required.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field trips.
• Evaluate each student’s growth in knowledge, skills, and STEM attitudes in the course being taught.
• Communicate with parents on student progress.
• Ensure high academic standards are set for and met by all students.
• Develop and execute a rigorous standards-based curriculum.
• Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and individualized learning plans to meet individual student needs.
• Use student performance data derived from teacher-created and standardized assessments to drive instructional decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Candidates must be able to demonstrate the academic progress of students under his/her leadership and articulate the methods used to achieve those results.

• Bachelor’s degree (required).

• Must possess valid Illinois Professional Education License (PEL) or equivalent (required).
• Must possess valid Illinois K-9 self-contained endorsement or equivalent (required).

• Must possess valid Illinois Middle School Science endorsement or equivalent (required).
• Must possess 9 college credits in Math (required).
• Residency in Chicago is not required.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. (required).

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.  Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files.  Physically demands require the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day.  In addition, walking up and down stairs several times a day.  Must be able to lift 15 to 20 pounds for short periods of time and push and pull 15 to 20 lbs.

Majority of work is performed in a general school environment.  Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties.  Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
