Position Summary:

The Technical Writer I is a professional-level responsible for independently developing, maintaining, and improving technical documentation that supports software products, internal systems, and operational processes. This position applies specialized knowledge of technical writing principles, documentation standards, and content strategy to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation.

The role exercises discretion and independent judgment in determining documentation structure, content organization, and presentation methods to meet the needs of diverse audiences. The Technical Writer I collaborates cross-functionally while owning assigned documentation deliverables and contributing to documentation quality, consistency, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties represent the core responsibilities of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

• Independently research, analyze, and interpret technical information obtained from subject matter experts, engineers, QA analysts, and product managers

• Plan, create, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, help content, process documentation, and release notes

• Determine appropriate documentation formats, structure, and level of detail based on audience needs and business objectives

• Apply established style guides and documentation standards while exercising judgment to improve clarity, usability, and consistency

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate technical accuracy and completeness of documentation

• Create or direct the development of diagrams, screenshots, and visual aids to support technical content

• Identify documentation gaps and recommend improvements to content, tools, or workflows

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to documentation practices, templates, and publishing processes

• Manage multiple documentation assignments concurrently while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Demonstrated ability to independently produce clear, concise, and well-structured technical documentation

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to analyze technical concepts and translate them into user-focused documentation

• Excellent organizational, research, and time-management skills

• Working knowledge of documentation standards and content quality best practices

• Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in content development

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with documentation tools such as Confluence, MadCap Flare, or Microsoft Office Suite

• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Markdown, or structured authoring concepts

• Experience creating diagrams, screenshots, or other visual documentation assets

• Exposure to Agile or Scrum development environments

• Familiarity with software platforms, logistics systems, or transportation-related technologies

• Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in technical documentation
