Columbia College Chicago is a private urban institution of approximately 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for a(an) TEMPORARY POST PRODUCTION EDITOR.

POSITION SUMMARY

Working under the direct supervision of the Post Production Manager in tandem with delegation of ad hoc duties and responsibilities by the Post Production Coordinator, the Post Production Editor completes film and video projects, as assigned. As a subject matter expert in post production they provide assistance with the day-to-day operation of the Post Production facilities including oversight and training of student workers, assisting students with software and post production work flow issues (problem resolution and troubleshooting), and facilitates student and faculty projects requiring use of facility resources.

This is a union, part-time temporary position through the Spring semester.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete student and departmental promotional film and video projects. Edits a wide range of assignments within the discipline that is indicated by the job title (i.e., color correction/grading, proxy files, sound mixing and export settings).

  • Encode, upload, and manage various stages of post-production output.

  • Troubleshoot editing systems and workflow issues.

  • Provide ad hoc classroom support; conduct presentations, lectures and create handouts.

  • Serve as a mentor to students. Provide guidance and advice on advanced post production workflows.

  • Facilitate media traffic and related services.

  • Perform quality control checks in all formats on delivery of finished assets to ensure they conform to industry technical standards.

  • Export final delivery files per required specs.

  • Assist in the training, assignment of projects, and oversight of student workers.

  • Maintain knowledge and training in the technology, software, and workflow for post-production. Continually research and identify best practices / advances where feasible. Identify ways to be more efficient and improve the quality of generated content.

  • Schedule faculty and student reservations.

  • Assist on matters where student information may be involved.

  • Open and/or close facilities when needed.

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and classroom areas.

  • Enforce department policies and procedures as well as those specific to the facility.

  • Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.

 



  • Bachelor degree in a film production related discipline.

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working on the post production of films and television shows.

  • Experience in a professional or higher education related equipment facility.

  • Expertise with digital video workflows, including cinema and television cameras, along with an advanced working knowledge of Avid editing systems, Davinci Resolve and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Demonstrates a solutions-based approach to problem solving. High attention to detail, proactive attitude, and ingenuity and creativity.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written to express thoughts and ideas effectively to others through a variety of media.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information.

  • Ability to maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, and adherence to office protocols and college policies and procedures.

  • A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and conscientious about getting the job done quickly.

  • Ability to interact with faculty, staff and students, individually and in class settings with standards of collegiality and responsibility.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule (including early morning, evening, and occasional week- end hours)

Position Minimum Hourly Rate or Annual Salary: $22.60

Position Maximum Hourly Rate or Annual Salary: $27.00

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including department budget.
