SummaryÂ
The Senior Analyst will be responsible for analyzing portfolio performance, characteristics, and risk of existing Harbor strategies, supporting due diligence on prospective strategies, and producing analytics used in external investment content. The role will also build and enhance tools and workflows that make complex analytics interpretable and actionable. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who acts with agency, takes ownership of ideas, and moves work forward with limited direction. The Senior Analyst position is on the Investment Risk and Data Science (IRDS) team, part of the broader Investment Research team and reports to the Head of IRDS.Â
The IRDS team is responsible for monitoring the performance, risk, and positioning of all Harbor investment strategies while analyzing prospective partners and supporting the development of new products. They deliver timely, decision-ready portfolio analyses to the Investment Research Team and create insightful content for Harbor’s Distribution team and clients. Additionally, the team designs and maintains analytical tools and data-driven processes that empower non-technical colleagues and enhance decision-making across the firm.

Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- ​​Develop and clearly articulate insights using qualitative and quantitative inputs from portfolio management teams, other researchers, market data, analytical tools, and databasesÂ
- ​Help advance the IRDS objective of empowering leaders across the firm with clear insight, not just data, by interpreting and explaining model outputs and analytics in contextÂ
- ​Collaborate with other Analysts and Research Directors on recurring analyses of existing subadvisors and underwriting of prospective subadvisorsÂ
- ​Identify gaps or inefficiencies in current analytics for measuring and reporting strategy performance, characteristics, and risk, and champion improvements with ownership and independenceÂ
- ​Create or enhance analytical processing using Python, R, SQL, or other code-based solutions, with a focus on scalable tools that can be used by non-technical teamsÂ
- ​Proactively create and share insights on portfolio positioning and changes in risk, translating complex analysis into clear and accessible languageÂ
- ​Search for and implement improved methods for identifying, evaluating, and communicating sources of alpha from active managementÂ
- ​Prepare accurate, time sensitive analytical reports for Harbor’s board of directors and internal investment committeesÂ
- ​Assist Research Directors in preparing thematic research materials and ad hoc fund specific content for webinars and client communicationsÂ
- ​Participate in due diligence meetings with current and prospective subadvisors and help synthesize findings into actionable perspectives​Â

Minimum QualificationsÂ
- ​​BA or BS, with a preference for finance or a related fieldÂ
- ​5-10 years of relevant industry experienceÂ
- ​Experience in, or strong knowledge of, the asset management industryÂ
- ​Strong knowledge of Python or R and SQL, with experience creating code-based solutions and querying data to enhance analytical processes and toolsÂ
- ​Experience or strong interest in analyzing portfolio risk across equities, commodities, and fixed income strategiesÂ
- ​Curious and comfortable exploring answers to open ended questionsÂ
- ​Desire to work in a fast paced and constantly changing environmentÂ
- ​Team oriented with strong intra and cross departmental communication skills, with the ability to communicate and build engagement through presentations, email, and individual conversationsÂ
- ​Ability to independently learn new software, query data, and generate reportsÂ

​Preferred QualificationsÂ
- ​Experience building interactive dashboards or analytical applications using tools such as R Shiny, Streamlit, or DashÂ
- ​Experience working with investment data platforms such as FactSet and Morningstar DirectÂ
- ​Familiarity with cloud data platforms and modern analytics toolingÂ
- ​Demonstrated willingness to use large language models and agentic AI tools to improve personal and team efficiency, including automation of routine analytics, documentation, quality checks, and dashboard or report generationÂ
- ​Openness to experimenting with new AI tools and integrating them into existing workflows in a controlled and responsible way ​​

The candidate should possess exceptional attention to detail and be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders with varying levels of investment knowledge, including multiple investment groups, data operations teams, and senior management. The candidate should be comfortable tailoring messages to both technical and non-technical audiences and communicating insights at multiple levels of detail.Â

The most amount of time will be spent analyzing data related to markets, active management, and Harbor strategies, and developing or enhancing analytics and data processes. A strong comfort with data operations is desired. The candidate should be resourceful, responsive, self-motivated, and accurate, with a strong sense of ownership and follow through.Â

The candidate should be able to use quantitative tools such as SQL and Python or R, and qualitative assessments, to understand strategy performance, positioning, and risk, and to distill complex analytics into clear insight and perspective for decision makers.
Compensation Pay Range: This position offers a competitive base salary range of $150,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
