Job Description Summary
The Respiratory Clinical Educator will oversee the Respiratory Care Clinical Education program and ensures compliance with the standards for Respiratory Care established by professional organizations, regulatory agencies, accreditation boards, and objective professional literature under guidance of the Medical Director. The Educator contributes to employee professional and clinical practice development and strives to attain the highest level of professional practice in the industry.The Respiratory Clinical Educator will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Job Description
The Respiratory Clinical Educator will:
Provide training and education related to Respiratory Therapy to SRAlab staff, including respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians and respiratory students.
Collaborate on developmental plans for individual staff, integrating research and evidence-based practice into formal and informal education programs.
Provide input on departmental and respiratory related policies, procedures and protocols.
Coordinate the Respiratory Care clinical proficiency and competency program, clinical orientations for new staff, evaluation of new equipment/products and identification of educational programs that will support the advancement of respiratory care practice.
Assist in the electronic audit process and evaluates results of electronic documentation in order to improve practitioner documentation skills.
Collaborate with the Nurse Educator to identify and develop educational needs and implement strategies.
Participate on committees representing Respiratory Care.
Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to the Manager, Respiratory Care
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
A professional level of knowledge generally acquired through the completion of a Master's Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited program.
Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience. Remains clinically proficient within area of expertise.
Licenses/certifications required:
Illinois State Licensure for Respiratory Care Practitioner,
National Board for Respiratory Care, Registered Respiratory Therapist,
Basic Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Pediatric Advanced Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Effective leadership and problem solving skills
Understanding of regulatory guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of practice
Able to champion collaborative education and team building.
Knowledge of current technologies and procedures related to the care and treatment of cardiopulmonary patients.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills and experience in development, teaching and coordinating educational programs for Respiratory Therapists.
Demonstrates strong organizational, communicational, group interaction and presentation skills.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
Excellent verbal/written communication.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
