About the Department
The University of Chicago's position on the South Side makes it uniquely situated to test, treat, and prevent new HIV infections in a highly affected population. The South Side communities and majority Black suburbs connected to them to the South represents the largest contiguous Black population in the United States. By using our integrated HIV transmission elimination approaches, we are beginning to make new infections in these communities less frequent.
Job Summary
This position is grant funded.
Responsibilities
- Calls community members and conducts resource counseling, completing all related documentation and notes; and researches appropriate and individualized resources for community members, specifically resources for people of color and those who identify as LGBQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer) and TGNC (transgender and gender non-conforming).
- Works with community members over the phone or in-person.
- Assists with day-to-day Supportive Services tasks, such as rapid response support for those who are seeking same-day treatment, and conducting assessments and safety plans for community members in distress.
- Provides HIV/STI treatment, education, and prevention in non-traditional settings, such as community venues.
- Performs phlebotomy or willing to be trained in phlebotomy.
- Supports evening and weekend events where Supportive Services is requested.
- Assists with and performs various administrative and operational tasks under direct supervision.
- Uses knowledge of clinical studies to coordinate the collection of analyzable clinical research data and/or samples.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

- Advanced degree in related field.
Experience:
- Background working with and/or providing care to LGBT populations, Black and Latino community members, providing HIV/STI treatment and/or prevention.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Working Conditions
