We built Tempus to collect, structure, and organize data from disparate sources to power innovation and discovery. And now we are looking for a Director, Strategy & Operations to join our rapidly growing Data org. The ideal candidate excels at bringing structure to ambiguity, has a proven track record of driving outcomes in complex environments, and can navigate cross-functional relationships with both technical depth and commercial judgment.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner closely with the VP, Operations on planning, prioritization, and execution across the business

  • Lead and develop the Strategy & Operations team to drive measurable business outcomes

  • Lead day-to-day execution of strategic initiatives and core business operations

  • Define and track key business performance metrics, maintaining dashboards and reporting that consistently surface insights on health, trends, and risks

  • Identify operational hotspots, execution risks, and workflow bottlenecks, and partner cross-functionally to resolve them

  • Establish and evolve the operating model by defining clear processes, roles and responsibilities, and operating rhythms that enable effective execution

  • Own and lead core business forums spanning performance management, product and roadmap alignment, and customer feedback

  • Continuously improve processes and operating rhythms to increase speed, focus, and execution quality 

  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships across Product, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Science, and Legal

  • Partner with Product and Marketing to support product marketing efforts, including positioning, messaging, and launch readiness

  • Build and maintain voice-of-customer feedback loops and translate insights into priorities and operational improvements

  • Ensure decisions and priorities are communicated clearly and translated into measurable progress

  • Step in hands-on when needed through analysis, problem-solving, or direct execution
     

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in go-to-market, strategy, operations, or consulting roles, with at least 2-3 years leading a team

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Business discipline; MBA or equivalent experience preferred

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to take initiative to get things done

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with ability to draw insights and lead data-driven decisions

  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, with high levels of autonomy

  • Proven track record of delivering business outcomes in a fast-growing environment

  • Strong collaboration skills with proven ability to influence and align cross-functional teams

Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $210,000

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
