DEPARTMENT: SERVICE DEPARTMENT - AUGUSTA


Overview: Technicians play a critical role at Freightliner of Augusta. Techs provide the essential job of helping to keep trucks & trailers rolling down our highways by providing maintenance and repairs. Our customers depend on our Techs to perform high quality work in an efficient manner so that they can get back on the road as soon as possible.

Job Objective: diagnose & repair all maintenance operations within industry standard repair guidelines to provide all customers with excellent customer service.


Core Tasks:
Repair and service all Freightliner & Western Star brands powered by Detroit or Cummins diesel engines. Including heavy duty, medium duty trucks, trailers, or light duty vehicles.

Candidates must be able to perform all levels of preventive maintenance services;
                Changing engine, transmission, or axle oil and filters
                Changing air filters and fuel filters
                Checking batteries
                Lubricating components
                General vehicle inspections including steering, brake systems, wheels, suspensions.

Ability to effectively communicate with team members regarding work assignments.
• Efficiently diagnose and repair assigned jobs.
• Write a complete and accurate story of the repair containing the Complaint, Cause, and Correction.
• Identify and determine parts required to complete the repair.
• Identify warrantable repairs and prepare appropriate warranty documentation.
• Ensure that all failed warranty parts are tagged and turned in.
• Maintain work area appearance and work area safety.
• Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly. (additional compensation is provided to technicians with a CDL-Commercial Driver’s License )
• Competent use of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools, pneumatic wrenches, torque wrenches, jacks and hoists.
• Safely and proficiently operate basic shop equipment such as torch, bench grinder, pneumatic grinder, hydraulic press, battery charger, and battery jump machine.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as laptop computers, analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
• Look up troubleshooting instructions in appropriate software programs and follow the instructions to manufacturer standards.
• Follow Company written processes relating to Technician job duties.
• Complete on-line & classroom training to ensure all dealership and factory training requirements are met.
• Travel as necessary to perform on-site repairs or attend training classes.
• Any other duties required from time to time to operate a successful Service Department and Truck Dealership.
