Summary/Objective of Position:

The successful applicant must have the background and experience to teach courses in majors and general education chemistry, including the two-semester general chemistry sequence, and the one semester general education chemistry for non-majors. The ability to teach other chemistry courses such as organic and biochemistry would be ideal. A Ph.D. is preferred, but an MS in chemistry is the minimum qualification. Also important will be the ability to set up and run ICPMS, HPLC, and other recently purchased analytical chemistry equipment in a water quality research program, including the possibility of mentoring thesis students at graduate level is highly recommended Assistant, Associate, or Professor Chemistry.

(90%) Instruction, Research, and Scholarship:

Teach courses in the Chemistry and related program. Support other programs within the school as

needed.Assist developing and updating

course curricula, prepare course syllabi, and align courses with HLC standards and/or other

accrediting bodies as needed. Participate in

articulation and accreditation processes for chemistry and general education programs as needed.

Apply for grants in the areas of research and other chemistry related initiatives. Collaborate with

faculty, staff, and administrative

leadership to enhance program excellence and equity. Monitor national and international initiatives in

the field of chemistry and related

courses as well as programmatic innovations and best practices. Attend professional development

conferences and training courses as

required.

Maintain an active and sustainable research agenda aligned with indigenous communities needs,

community-based participatory

research, or related fields. Conduct research leading to publications.

(5%) Mentoring, Advising, and Supervision:

Mentor and serve as an advisor to students in chemistry courses. Provide mentorship to capstone and

integrated research students, train,

and supervise personnel in conducting research at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Participate in committees of other graduate students. Supervision of technical staff if grants are

developed. Maintain scheduled office

hours for student engagement and advisement.

(5%) Service:

Must be comfortable working with diverse faculty, staff, and students. Service on different standing

committees.Faculty are expected to

be collegial members of their units, and to perform appropriate service that contributes to the

effectiveness of their units, departments,

the College, and their professions.

Service includes outreach to the greater Diné community to better position the college within the community. Support service initiatives at the school and university levels



QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

A Master Degree in chemistry or related field. Minimum one year of teaching experience at the 4 year higher learning institute or university level. Online teaching experience is a plus. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment. Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion.

Preferred:

To teach 100 and 200 level courses a Master Degree in Chemistry or related field. To teach 300 and 400 level courses, a PhD is preferred with minimum or 18 credits hours of upper division courses in the discipline to be taught. Three-five years of teaching experience at the university level; experience with chemistry or related courses, teaching, education, research and publications. Record of, or potential for, collaborative, multidisciplinary research, especially in research contributing to the Dine people.

Knowledge:

Skills:

Effective written, spoken, and non-verbal communication skills. Problem-solving and decision-making skills. Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory. Navajo/American Indian preference is exercised but not mandatory. Bilingual and bi- literate Navajo preferred but not mandatory. MS Office 360, Outlook, SPSS, ANOVA, SAS, NVivo or equivalent qualitative analysis software, GIS, online teaching platforms (canvas, zoom, Blackboard). In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery (Face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous, blended, hybrid), and course maintenance (such as grade submissions, posting of syllabus, etc.).

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with faculty, students, and community partners. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and sustain attention to detail while contributing to dynamic team-based and community-focused efforts.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

8-5 pm, M-F, Weekends, Remote potential. Instruction and research is generally indoors but can include outdoor work in adverse weather conditions. Weekend and/or evening work may be necessary. Travel to other campuses, research sites, or other locations for outreach events is expected.

Other Requirement(s):

This position requires driving a college GSA vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the college; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle training and history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self- report convictions as per College Policy.
