Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and engaging American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to inspire students while developing their communication skills and appreciation for Deaf culture. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to creating an inclusive, student-centered classroom and delivering high-quality instruction aligned with California World Language Standards. The successful candidate will foster language proficiency, cultural awareness, and confidence in students while collaborating with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student success.

What You'll Do:

  • Teach American Sign Language (ASL) courses using standards-based instructional practices.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans that promote language acquisition, receptive and expressive signing skills, and cultural competency.
  • Assess student progress through classroom activities, projects, presentations, and formal assessments.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learning styles.
  • Integrate educational technology and multimedia resources to enhance instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding academic progress.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, school events, and collaborative planning activities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records in accordance with district policies.

Experience You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, Deaf Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid California Single Subject Credential: World Language, American Sign Language and English Learner Authorization
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and community.
  • Previous teaching or instructional experience preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills.
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
  • RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification or equivalent credentials.
  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
