Job Summary:

The Tire Technician will diagnose, repair, rotate, and change tires. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Uses hydraulic jacks to lift vehicles.
  • Inspects tires to identify holes, tears, tread depth, or defects.
  • Identifies appropriate tire size and ply; inflates tires to proper air pressure based on product information.
  • Removes items puncturing tires; injects or inserts adhesive materials and expanding rubber plugs to seal punctures in tubeless tires; glues or seals patches over ruptures as appropriate.
  • Uses lug wrenches and other hand or power tools to unbolt and remove wheels from vehicle.
  • Rotates tires using appropriate tools.
  • Identifies counterweights required to balance wheels with the use of balancing machines; attaches counterweights onto rims.
  • Maintains inventory by tracking stock, organizing supplies, receiving product, and updating records.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and comply with DOT tire repair and replacement standards.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently work with related tools and lifts.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Fluent with technology and software to diagnose, track, and inventory tires.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous related experience or successful completion of a automotive tire service training program.

Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods working in confined, awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools and lifts.
  • The ability to handle various temperatures, dirt, oil, and other chemicals.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy environment with strong odors present.
