Wage:Â $20.00 - $26.45/hour, starting wage based on experience

Job Summary:
The Support Specialist supports all areas of the Museum and Research Center including: Museum and Exhibits, Education and Recreation, Collections, and the Research Center. This position will assist all the department managers with events and special projects. This position requires excellent people skills and must be able to transition between projects as business necessitates.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists the Museum and Research Director in researching, collecting, and documenting artifacts for exhibits; may include installing and dismantling exhibits
- Assists the director and managers with administrative duties to foster collaboration of scheduling, projects, and communication within the department
- Conducting tours for guests in both structured and non-structured settings such as field trips, events, and MDC guests in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Assists guests with necessary research and performs front desk duties as directed by the Research Center Manager
- Assists the Collections Manager with administrative tasks associated with the collection records and processing
- Assists with researching and identifying the recreational needs and desires of citizens
- Assists the Education, Program, and Recreation Manager with facilitating education and interpretive programs to meet MDC’s needs
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Museum and Research Director
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Two (2) or four (4) year degree in Arts, Natural History, Museum Administration, Humanities, History, Recreation, Education, Library Sciences, or other areas relating to the museum; recreation, and education/interpretation specialties preferred
- At least two years of museum, recreation, or education experience required
- Demonstrated interest in local history, natural history, museum studies, archaeology, paleontology, or related field
- Minimum of two years customer service experience

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times
- Must be able to physically prepare exhibits, which may include walking, standing, kneeling, or climbing
Work Environment:
- Work is performed primarily in an office, museum, or storage setting
- Mostly indoors, but may be outdoors in all weather conditions depending on day’s events
- Will interact with guests, staff, and vendors
