Apprentice Medical Assistant – Get Paid to Learn & Build Your Healthcare Career

Location: Choteau, MT
Job Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Schedule: 40 Paid Hours Per Week – 30 Hours Working + 10 Hours Education/Training

Want to become a Medical Assistant but don’t have the certification yet? We’ll help you get there — while you’re getting paid.

Alluvion Health is seeking an Apprentice Medical Assistant to join our team in Choteau, Montana. Our Medical Assistant Apprenticeship provides a structured, hands-on pathway to build the skills and experience needed to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

And one of the best parts? Your education is part of your paid workweek.

As a full-time Apprentice Medical Assistant, you are paid for 40 hours each week, with:

  • 30 hours per week working and gaining hands-on experience
  • 10 paid hours per week dedicated to education and apprenticeship training

You’ll learn while you work, gain real healthcare experience, and progressively move into the Medical Assistant role as you complete your training and competencies.

About the Apprenticeship

Apprentices generally begin by learning the Patient Access Specialist role, where you’ll build a strong foundation in patient communication, scheduling, registration, insurance and financial information, electronic medical records, and the day-to-day operations of a healthcare clinic.

At the same time, 10 hours of your paid 40-hour workweek are dedicated to education and training as part of the apprenticeship program.

As you progress through the program, your education and hands-on training will move you into the Medical Assistant role, where you’ll develop clinical skills and work directly alongside our healthcare team.

After completing 2,000 hours of work and training, you will be qualified to pursue the nationally recognized Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam.

Already Have Healthcare Experience?

You may be able to move through the apprenticeship more quickly.

Candidates with at least two years of qualifying prior experience — or a combined two years in qualifying roles — may receive credit for 1,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Qualifying experience may include:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Medication Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Medical Assistant
  • Patient Access Specialist
  • Care Coordinator

Prior experience will be reviewed and validated to determine eligibility for apprenticeship credit and whether the employee may begin directly in the Medical Assistant portion of the program.

What You’ll Learn and Do

Patient Access Training

During the Patient Access portion of the apprenticeship, you may:

  • Welcome patients and provide excellent customer service.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Answer incoming calls and respond to patient messages.
  • Collect and verify demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Use the electronic medical record system.
  • Help determine eligibility for the Sliding Fee Discount Program.
  • Collect co-pays, nominal fees, and payments for services.
  • Connect patients with Care Coordinators and other resources when needed.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Support general clinic operations and administrative responsibilities.

Medical Assistant Training

As you advance into the Medical Assistant portion of the apprenticeship, you’ll learn to:

  • Provide direct patient care in a clinical setting.
  • Prepare patients for visits and assist the clinical care team.
  • Obtain height, weight, vital signs, and other patient information.
  • Document clinical information in the electronic medical record.
  • Follow established Medical Assistant protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms.
  • Assist with clinic supplies and patient education materials.
  • Support patients and families in locating community resources.
  • Participate in outreach and preventive health initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, patients, and community partners.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or HiSET.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
  • Ability to adapt to a busy healthcare environment and changing priorities.
  • Ability to successfully pass required background screening.

No Medical Assistant certification is required to begin the apprenticeship.

We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, dependable, compassionate, comfortable working with patients, and excited about building a career in healthcare.
