Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime) — This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, meaning the employee is entitled to overtime pay at a rate of one and one-half times their regular rate for all hours worked in excess of forty per week.

Schedule:

Full-time; standard hours as required by operational demands; schedule may vary based on plant operations, production cycles, and business need.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position carries no formal supervisory responsibility; however, the incumbent is expected to serve as a role model and professional example to fellow employees, and may be called upon to cover for Plant Managers in their absence as operational needs require.

Position Summary

The Plant Labor - Block II position is responsible for supporting daily production operations within the block manufacturing facility by ensuring proper equipment setup, material preparation, and product quality standards are consistently met. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient production runs by verifying correct mold placement, batch selection, moisture content, and finished product integrity. The position contributes directly to plant safety, environmental compliance, and the overall quality of concrete masonry unit output. The Plant Labor - Block II employee works under direct supervision and operates in a physically demanding outdoor and indoor production environment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Establishes and enforces plant-wide safety protocols and company safety programs in compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSR, and all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations; conducts regular inspections and corrective action follow-through, and cooperates with the Director of Health and Safety to ensure all operations and activities are performed in a consistently safe manner.
  • Selects and installs the correct mold into production equipment prior to each run in accordance with product specifications and company standards.
  • Verifies that the appropriate batch formula is matched to the product being manufactured and that batch materials meet required moisture content before production begins.
  • Inspects finished products for correct height, structural integrity, and the absence of cracks, voids, or other abnormalities, removing or flagging non-conforming units as appropriate.
  • Sets up and prepares production equipment at the start of each shift or product changeover, following established procedures for each product type.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance tasks including lubrication of moving parts, checking and replenishing oil and fluid levels, and applying grease as required to ensure continuous and safe operation.
  • Monitors equipment performance throughout each production run and immediately reports any malfunction, irregularity, or unsafe condition to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area by removing excess material, sweeping, shoveling debris, and returning tools and supplies to designated storage locations.
  • Adheres to all applicable environmental regulations, promptly containing and cleaning up any spilled or excess material that may pose an environmental hazard.
  • Handles, stages, and transports raw materials, supplies, and finished products safely using proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment as required.
  • Completes miscellaneous labor tasks and outside duties as directed by supervision, including general plant housekeeping, equipment cleaning, and support of other production activities.


Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal production instructions and company procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify product defects and equipment irregularities.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for interaction with supervisors and fellow production team members.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and gripping materials throughout the full work shift.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work in an outdoor and industrial environment under varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to comply with all plant safety policies, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a concrete block production facility or similar masonry manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with concrete admixtures, mold systems, and batch production processes.


Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
