Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

 

Position Purpose:

 

Involves determination of manufacturability of products and improved effectiveness and cost of production processes through determinations regarding: Methods, equipment, layout, workflow, time standards, capacity utilization, process/equipment improvements, and process control systems. May involve application of knowledge and methods for understanding physical phenomena to achieve specified characteristics and criteria for products and processes. Involves organizational health and safety management systems, procedures, and programs.

 

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

 

  • Designs and plans layout for such processes as hardening, washing, laminating, etching, engraving, polishing, plating, and other material-processing operations. 
  • Plans sequence of operations and specifies procedures for cutting, shaping, and otherwise preparing basic material.
  • Exercising judgment in compromising between conflicting requirements, economic evaluation of methods, and operator effectiveness and comfort.
  • Develop and refine software programs essential for system functionality and performance.
  • Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over such variables as temperature, density, specific gravity, pressure, and viscosity.
  • Establishes and submits processing requirements to be met in designing and acquiring processing equipment.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives.
  • Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.
  • Participate in the assembly and testing of measurement systems to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Manages, through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of activities of a section or department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees.

 

 

Required Skills and Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental engineering principle
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Results oriented and high level of dedication.
  • Able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure.
  • Aim to learn new technologies and processes quickly.
  • Understands how to balance pursuit of fundamental understanding with driving forward business needs.

 

Desired Skills:

 

  • Knowledge or ability to learn motion controls software and ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of measurement system hardware technology
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
  • Self-motivated and self-starter who is results oriented and can work independently with high commitment / energy
  • The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
  • Previous experience using problem-solving methodologies such as process capability analysis, statistical process control methods, model development, Six Sigma DMAIC, Lean, DOE, MSAs, PQA and the Scientific Method.

The range for this position is  $147,927.00 - $203,400.00  assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
