Position Summary
Under the supervision of the District Operations Manager, the Store Manager in Training (SMIT) participates in a structured training program designed to prepare them for promotion to Store Manager. The SMIT will learn all aspects of store operations, leadership, and business management while demonstrating the ability to uphold company standards, policies, and values.
This position serves as a developmental and probationary role, during which the individual will be evaluated on their leadership potential, operational competence, and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and store performance. The SMIT is expected to actively participate in hands-on learning, shadow experienced leaders, and assume increasing levels of responsibility throughout the training period.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Training & Development
- Complete a structured training curriculum covering operations, leadership, customer service, inventory management, and compliance
- Shadow Store Managers, Area Managers, and key personnel to gain insight into best practices and company processes
- Demonstrate proficiency in company systems, including S2K, EPOS, and time clock functions
- Participate in performance evaluations to assess readiness for promotion to Store Manager
- Apply training knowledge in day-to-day operations while receiving guidance and feedback from supervisors
- Exhibit leadership qualities, initiative, and the ability to learn from coaching and constructive feedback
Customer Engagement
- Learn and model the company’s standards for superior customer service
- Support and guide Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) in providing consistent, friendly, and efficient service
- Assist in monitoring customer feedback, satisfaction scores, and service quality metrics
- Develop the ability to effectively handle customer concerns and ensure a positive resolution
Store Operations
- Gain proficiency in all aspects of daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and vendor relations
- Assist in maintaining store cleanliness, visual appeal, and product organization to ensure a welcoming environment
- Ensure compliance with company policies, cash control procedures, and operational guidelines
- Learn to oversee labor scheduling and monitor payroll to maintain staffing within budgetary requirements
Food & Beverage Handling
- Obtain and maintain active Management Food Safety Handling Certification as required by state regulations
- Learn and enforce proper food safety, sanitation, and product handling procedures for all store employees
- Assist in training and monitoring team members to ensure compliance with all health and safety standards
Inventory Control
- Participate in inventory processes, including receiving, stocking, transfers, and reconciliation of discrepancies
- Learn to manage and document inventory accurately through the back-office system
- Support the evaluation of inventory levels and implement best practices to minimize shrink
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Assist the Store Manager and District Operations Manager in supervising, training, and motivating store employees
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and employee development activities
- Learn to conduct performance reviews, set goals, and provide feedback to team members
- Promote a positive work environment built on teamwork, communication, and accountability
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure full understanding of company policies, operational procedures, and safety standards
- Support store audits and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company regulations
- Complete all required reports, documentation, and training modules in a timely and accurate manner
Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or related field preferred
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in retail, food service, or related customer-facing environment
- Prior supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude for leadership and store operations
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

- High attention to detail and ability to learn complex systems and procedures
- Proven ability to work independently while following direction and accepting feedback

- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and retail POS systems
