Job Description Summary

This role partners with the Development Engine Test Planner to create, standardize, and sustain daily operating processes and to manage readiness and inventory of test-enabling hardware using FLIGHT DECK standards. The Lead Engineer – Testing Specialist is a hands-on driver of daily management rigor, defect reduction, and hardware readiness to support safe, high-quality engine testing.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own Standard Work: Create, maintain, and continuously improve standard work for daily activities performed in Development Engine Test.
  • Drive FLIGHT DECK: Serve as an area SME and champion of FLIGHT DECK fundamentals within DETO; reinforce daily operating cadence and visual management.
  • Execute problem solving: Lead and participate in APPS and PSRs to deliver data-driven solutions to top defects, recurring issues, and flow disruptions.
  • Manage inventory and records: Maintain inventory, accountability, and records for Government Property and other controlled test assets, ensuring compliance to applicable requirements.
  • Lead complex tasks/projects: Act as a project leader on complex tasks; coordinate cross-functional actions to meet commitments and reduce risk.
  • Demonstrate integrity and compliance: Strictly adhere to the Spirit & Letter Code of Conduct and GE procedures.
  • Work independently: Operate with minimal supervision; demonstrate initiative, ownership, and strong time management.
  • Security requirements: Obtain and maintain a security clearance (as required).

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in an applicable technical discipline from an accredited school or institution {i.e. Aviation Maintenance, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Technology, Chemical Technology, Lean Manufacturing, Logistics etc.} (Or a high school diploma / GED with two years of work experience in a manufacturing or testing environment)
  • 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing or testing environment
  • Security clearance requirement applies as needed for assigned programs/areas

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Lean/Continuous ImprovementLogistics, or Supply Chain Management (or closely related field). Additional preference for 4+ years experience in a testing environment (jet engine test preferred) and demonstrated experience implementing standard work, managing controlled inventory/Government Property, and leading structured problem solving (e.g., APPS/PSRs).
  • Proven ability to lead tasks that require a broad experience base and strong execution discipline
  • Experience developing and executing plans to ensure technical requirements are met
  • Experience partnering with operations leaders/cell owners to standardize processes and improve productivity
  • A&P license and/or strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective problem identification and structured problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated success in a cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Demonstrated behaviors aligned to Respect for People, Continuous Improvement, and Customer Driven execution
  • Willingness to work in a highly structured operating environment and to lead change through standardization
  • Ability to work in a controlled environment with strict procedural compliance and asset accountability
