Job Summary
DeBra-Kuempel is seeking a Construction Safety Co-op to support the Safety Department and gain hands-on experience in construction safety. This position will assist with job site inspections, safety training initiatives, PPE management, safety documentation, and compliance efforts while working closely with field and office teams. The Safety Co-op will have the opportunity to learn and apply construction safety principles in a real-world environment while contributing to a strong culture of safety across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining, promoting, and enforcing project site safety in accordance with company, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Support PPE inventory management, distribution, and tracking for job site personnel.
- Participate in job site visits, inspections, and safety audits to identify hazards and observe safe work practices.
- Assist in documenting safety observations and corrective actions resulting from site inspections.
- Support the administration and organization of safety files, training records, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with employee onboarding and safety orientation activities.
- Help coordinate and track required safety training and certifications.
- Utilize ToolWatch and other company systems to support asset management and equipment inspection tracking.
- Participate in incident investigations and near-miss reporting activities as assigned.
- Collaborate with Safety Managers, Safety Coordinators, Project Managers, and field personnel to reinforce safe work practices.
- Perform all other duties as required or assigned to support the success of the role and the organization.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Safety Sciences, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in construction safety and risk management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- This position may require local travel to job sites, attend meetings, assist at other office locations, etc.
