Position Summary

Mural Group is partnering with a precision CNC machining shop in Hamilton, Ohio that is built to take on the complex work that most shops will not touch. They partner with engineers in aerospace, energy, hydraulics, turbomachinery, and defense to produce close-tolerance components from difficult materials including titanium and high-temp alloys, across 5-axis milling, multi-axis machining, and mill-turn platforms. As they continue to grow, they are adding a Quality Engineer to take ownership of the quality engineering function and help drive the disciplined, data-driven quality culture their customers depend on.

What You Will Own

This role goes beyond inspection. You will bring engineering thinking to our quality function: developing plans, driving root cause, supporting customer relationships, and ensuring our processes are as precise as our parts.

  • Develop and maintain quality engineering documentation: inspection plans, control plans, PFMEAs, and work instructions for new and existing part families

  • Lead First Article Inspection (FAI) activities per AS9102 requirements, from planning through final submission

  • Support CMM inspection using our Zeiss platform (Calypso) and manual metrology tools; contribute to CMM program development for new components

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) for nonconformances and customer escapes

  • Serve as the primary quality interface for customer audits, source inspections, and quality-related communications

  • Review engineering drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to develop inspection criteria and identify potential manufacturability concerns early in the quoting and planning process

  • Maintain and improve our AS9100 quality management system, including internal audits and management review support

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting defect reduction, inspection efficiency, and first-pass yield improvement

  • Partner with machinists, programmers, and shop leadership to embed quality thinking into daily production workflow

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and hands-on quality engineering experience

  • 3 or more years of quality engineering experience in a precision machining or high-tolerance manufacturing environment

  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

  • Hands-on experience with CMM operation (programming and/or execution); Calypso experience strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems

  • Experience developing FAI documentation and supporting customer source inspections

  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and corrective action experience (8D, 5-Why, or equivalent)

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, machinists, and engineering staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or turbomachinery manufacturing

  • Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements

  • Experience machining or engineering background with difficult materials such as titanium, Inconel, or stainless steel

  • Supplier quality or audit experience

  • CQE, CMSC, or equivalent quality certification

  • Experience with ERP or MES systems for quality documentation and traceability
