Job Description:

L3Harris Fuzing & Ordnance Systems (L3H FOS) is the largest fuze manufacturer in the United States and is one of the most advanced manufacturers of fuzing and ordnance products in the world.

L3Harris maintains an unwavering commitment to conducting business operations in a manner that provides and maintains safe and healthy working conditions, protects the environment, conserves natural resources, and complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.  As our business continues to grow, we are looking to add an Electrical Engineer to our Special Test Equipment Development Engineering Group.

As a member of the L3H FOS team, your primary focus would be the development of Specialized Test Equipment used to test products through all phases of design and production.  You would also assume the responsibility of presenting designs to internal and external customers for reviewing and addressing technical issues.  A solid understanding of circuit theory, components, firmware, software and troubleshooting skills is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Focus on the design and development of specialized systems and special test equipment for electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical products.
  • Extensive analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, data acquisition, filtering/conditioning, printed circuit design, measurement error analysis, and future system-level engineering.
  • Utilization of CAE tools such as Altium and SPICE, and laboratory equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc. used to perform circuit design, verification and troubleshooting.
  • Working with or creating embedded firmware to control hardware.  Working with various serial communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-422, SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the year.
  • Must be able to obtain a US Secret security clearance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Novice with basic analog building blocks including differential amplifiers, op amps, LDOs, filters, and data converters
  • Novice with basic digital building blocks including logic gates, flip flops, timers, and filters
  • Novice in writing code in C language
  • Experience with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, meters, etc.)
  • Novice with modeling and simulation utilities (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with schematic capture and/or board layout utilities (Altium, PADS, etc.)
  • Experience with serial communication buses including UART, SPI, and I2C
  • Novice in preparing and participating in design reviews (internal and external)
  • Experience with creating Technical Documentation (Engineering Drawings, Calibration Procedures, Validation Procedures, Operating Instructions, etc.)
  • Novice in Engineering Change and Configuration Management processes
  • Novice in Software Development (C#, VB, .NET, LabVIEW, etc.)
  • Novice in microcontroller and CPLD/FPGA Firmware Development (Embedded C, Verilog, etc.)
  • Experience with Wiring Diagram and Cable Assembly Design

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $71,000 -$132,000. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $62,000 - $115,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
