The Technical Support Medical Simulation Operator delivers unparalleled capability to the Air Force through a combination of world class infrastructure and expertise of its diverse workforce of military, civilian and contractor personnel encompassing 75 occupational specialties including science and engineering, occupational health and safety, medical professions, technicians, educators, and business operations and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and support on operating a high-fidelity patient simulator system, assist in developing metrics to validate a simulation-based team- training program.
  • Assist with the use of advanced learning technologies and methodologies to improve medical education and training for healthcare teams for the purpose of improving patient outcomes.
  • Provide technical and analytic support for the Team Training Program at USAFSAM. Work with the USAFSAM/ET personnel to provide digital video recording support, maintenance of existing equipment, analysis of team training measures, design of simulation scenarios, technical expertise in running simulators within a constrained/controlled simulation environment.
  • Provide support for digital video recording and simulators for other C-STARS training platforms.
  • Use “state-of-the-art”, Learning Management System. PrimaryTasks will include operating the LMS & A/V solution that will be used to view and evaluate learner performance during training and simulation events.
  • Provide analysis of team performance during pre and post simulated conditions to establish correlation between pre- and post-performance. Contractor shall utilize, complete, collect and track simulation evaluation tools.
  • Assist with development, data collection, data analysis, and administration of all pre- and post-simulation scenarios.
  • Prepare training environments, operate simulation equipment/assets, and recover equipment and environment for scheduled training and upon request by USAFSAM Staff.
  • Conduct orientation to the simulation equipment and environment and provide overview of the human patient simulator.
  • Assist in the management and support daily operations of the simulation training program.
  • Assist in the development of simulation program validation metrics.
  • Work cooperatively with the applicable program analysis, course curriculum advisors, course program director, IM/IT, medical logistics, and site simulation center leadership to identify operational needs. Based on these identified needs, shall develop recommendations to address simulation/course shortfalls.
  • Help the program course director during the patient simulation scenario review process
  • Develop and provide training, safety and maintenance materials appropriate to the operation of all simulation equipment as directed by the Simulation Program Coordinator or as warranted by operational necessity.
  • Attend all strategic planning meetings and teleconferences, as well as meetings and conferences for the purpose of improving the patient’s simulated course experience and delivery of course content
  • Assist and provide guidance to simulation center set-up and shall provide consultative assistance to program course management regarding future site expansion, as well as high-fidelity HPS recommendations
  • Ensure that simulation education, program key elements, and learning objectives are considered, and shall ensure simulation training outcome measurements meet course and skill sustainment requirements.
  • Responsible for reporting needs regarding simulation supplies & equipment in support of course training scenarios targeted to meet identified learning objectives.
  • Operate simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized Hi-fidelity simulators, and virtual reality procedural trainers individually or in combination with the ability to follow legitimate medical aspects of scenarios and shall make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions or inactions as needed.
  • Create troubleshooting documents, simulation checklists, and simulation lesson plans/scenarios for simulation equipment. These products will be forwarded to the program course director for review.
  • Support USAFSAM simulation research.
  • Leave request/projections will be provided to ET Academic and Readiness Operations Division Chief at least 10 workdays in advance via email to meet local policy. Absence during scheduled course dates will be avoided
  • Assist with train-the-trainer activities and basic equipment troubleshooting items for the purpose of training additional cadre members.
  • Participate in operational exercises which provide valuable professional development through travel opportunities and firsthand exposure to CCAT mission operations.

Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain current National Registered Paramedic (NRP) certification.
  • Possess and maintain Basic Life Support-Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification.
  • Minimum five (5) years' clinical experience in military or civilian setting
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience with programming of human patient simulators using primarily Laerdal, Gaumard & CAE simulator operating systems.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of military trauma clinical skills, procedures, processes to include: AFMS Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).
  • Proficiency with word processing software and SharePoint applications
  • Paramedic equivalent medical knowledge (with RN level preferred) as the Simulation operator in order to be able to manipulate physiological data and interpret participants response to simulated scenarios.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable Air Force and professional standards.
  • Knowledge of military and civilian guidelines, policy & procedure through successful completion of USAFSAM’s and Department’s orientation programs is required.
  • Ability to lift and/move up to 50 pounds of human patient simulation equipment to and from training areas
  • Experience in course development and education methodology.
  • Knowledge of military trauma clinical skills, procedures, processes to include: AFMS Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).
