Maintenance Technician

Xavier University’s Office of Physical Plant is seeking applications for the role of Maintenance Technician. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and comfortable campus environment. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded technician! with hands-on experience in multiple trades and a proactive mindset toward preventive maintenance and timely repairs.

The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance tasks across a variety of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other mechanical components. This position supports the upkeep of campus facilities through routine preventive maintenance, prompt response to work orders, and collaboration with other skilled trades.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.

• Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.

• Complete and manage work orders through the campus CMMS system.
• Prioritize tasks to ensure safety and minimize downtime.

• Work both independently and as part of a team to support university operations.

• Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.

• Availability to be on-call on a rotational schedule. 

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.

• 3–5 years of experience in a facilities or maintenance-related role.

• Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and proficiency with standard tools.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.), and work from ladders or in confined spaces.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with various departments and stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, and confined spaces is common.

• Must be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks including bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and climbing.
