Position Summary

The Reserve Deputy Sheriff serves as a sworn law enforcement officer who supports full-time deputies in protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and maintaining public safety throughout Rogers County. Reserve Deputies assist across multiple operational areas including patrol, school resource operations, investigations, search and rescue, courthouse security, inmate transport, and medical observation.


Key Responsibilities

Patrol Operations

  • Assist with routine and high-visibility patrol of assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
  • Respond to calls for service, including disturbances, accidents, and suspicious activity
  • Conduct traffic enforcement and assist with accident investigations
  • Support full-time deputies during emergency and high-risk incidents

School Resource Officer (SRO) Support

  • Provide law enforcement presence within assigned schools
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and administrators
  • Assist with school safety planning, threat assessment, and incident response
  • Support educational outreach on safety, law enforcement, and crime prevention

Investigations

  • Assist investigators with case follow-up, interviews, and evidence collection
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to criminal cases
  • Support surveillance operations and warrant service when assigned

Search and Rescue (SAR)

  • Participate in organized search and rescue operations for missing persons
  • Assist in disaster response and recovery efforts
  • Operate in various terrains and environmental conditions as part of coordinated SAR teams

Courthouse Security

  • Provide security at the Rogers County Courthouse
  • Screen visitors and maintain order in courtrooms and public areas
  • Respond to disturbances and ensure the safety of judges, staff, and the public

Inmate Transports

  • Safely transport inmates between detention facilities, courts, and medical facilities
  • Maintain custody and control of prisoners at all times
  • Complete the required documentation related to transport activities

Medical Observation

  • Monitor inmates or individuals under medical or mental health observation
  • Assist detention or medical staff in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in custody
  • Report and document any changes in condition or behavior


Additional Duties

  • Prepare detailed and accurate incident and activity reports
  • Maintain proficiency with department-issued equipment and firearms
  • Participate in required training, drills, and continuing education
  • Represent the Sheriff’s Office with professionalism and integrity in all interactions


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must meet Oklahoma CLEET requirements for reserve peace officers (or be eligible)
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background investigation, physical assessment, and drug screening
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior law enforcement, military, or public safety experience
  • Training or experience in search and rescue, investigations, or school policing


Work Environment

  • Field-based law enforcement environment with exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Potential for high-risk and high-stress situations
  • Interaction with diverse populations, including inmates and individuals in crisis
