DRS Engineer 2

Location: 440 Court Street, Clearwater, FL

Are you passionate about helping builders, engineers and residents efficiently process development applications from project inception through building occupancy?Ā 

This is a position requiring both technical knowledge and the ability to work with project applicants with a ā€œcustomer firstā€ and ā€œissue resolutionā€ approach.Ā Ā 

This position is highly advanced technical work blending the review of site plans, subdivisions and building permits with a strong understanding of stormwater management/design, floodplain management, transportation design and right-of-way access permitting, and overall site design. Ability to review and understand construction plans, drainage calculations, drainage models to determine compliance with County Codes, and land development codes independently is needed. Independently prepares compliance reports, drainage models using Stormwise (formerly ICPR), and BMPTrains, drainage exhibits using Adobe and Autocad, and proficient use of GIS layers and software. Must understand and have the ability to solve complex stormwater and flood conditions by applying sound Hydrology and Hydraulics standard principles, investigate causes, and develop and present solutions. Process code violations to obtain compliance of site plans including appearing in Court as needed.Ā 

What Would You Do?Ā 

  • Performs engineering reviews, prepares comments with a focus of resolving conflicts during design and construction phases of a project;Ā 

  • Reviews all commercial and residential development to ensure adherence to applicable County codes;Ā 

  • Prepares compliance reports, drainage models, and drainage exhibits;Ā 

  • Reviews stormwater calculations and construction plans to determine compliance with land development codes;Ā 

  • Serve as lead representative on technical and administrative matters as assigned;Ā 

  • Creates compliance issue reports for deficiencies found within site plan and calculation submittals;Ā 

  • Performs complex technical development and/or review of engineering details and specifications;Ā 

  • Reviews as-built drawings and engineer’s certification of completion statements to ensure compliance with County standards and approved plans;Ā 

  • Performs field reviews of sites for reported drainage issues and inspection with in-hand as-built drawings for compliance with approved plansĀ Ā 

  • Reviews FEMA documents and applicant supplied plans and calculations to ensure compliance with floodplain management codes;Ā 

  • Provide excellent customer service to the development community in response to drainage and engineering questions, whether in-person, over the phone or via email;Ā 

  • Performs related work as assigned, or required.Ā

What Do You Need to Have?Ā 

License:Ā  Professional Engineering license from the State of Florida (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire)Ā 

Degree:Ā  Bachelors in Civil engineering or other relevant engineering discipline Experience: Ā Minimum 5-7 years technical engineering experience in land development projects that directly relates to the subject matter area of responsibility such as working with drainage models or stormwater criteria as it relates to compliance with county or state codes, to include 1 year supervising professional engineering functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.Ā 

Additional RequirementsĀ 

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.Ā 

  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.Ā
