Position Overview
The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a high‑volume maintenance shop supporting a fleet of 80+ trucks and 125 trailers, including Conestogas, flatbeds, Peterbilt trucks, and equipment powered by PACCAR, D15, and Volvo engines. This role requires strong technical knowledge, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage technicians, workflow, inventory, compliance, and vendor relationships. The Shop Manager will use Fullbay as the primary maintenance management platform to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and operational transparency.

Key Responsibilities

Shop Operations & Workflow Management

  • Oversee all repair and maintenance activities using Fullbay to manage work orders, scheduling, technician assignments, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure all repairs meet company standards, OEM specifications, and DOT regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor shop productivity, troubleshoot workflow bottlenecks, and maintain efficient turnaround times for both trucks and trailers.
  • Perform quality control checks on completed work.

Technical Expertise & Mentoring

  • Provide hands-on technical support and guidance on equipment including:
  • Conestogas and flatbed trailers
    • Peterbilt trucks and PACCAR/D15/Volvo engine platforms
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to technicians; foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Train team members on proper repair procedures, diagnostics, safety practices, and Fullbay usage.

Inventory & Parts Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory in Fullbay, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and returning parts.
  • Work with national discount programs, OEM parts networks, and local vendors to optimize cost savings and parts availability.
  • Track high‑use components, warranty returns, cores, and maintain proper inventory levels.

Vendor & Purchasing Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national vendors.
  • Ensure purchasing aligns with company budget guidelines and negotiated discount structures.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and pricing to ensure cost‑effective procurement.

DOT, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure full DOT compliance for the entire fleet, including inspections, repair documentation, and out‑of‑service prevention.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in Fullbay for audits and internal reporting.
  • Oversee shop safety programs and enforce proper PPE and operating procedures.

Leadership & Communication

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of technicians and shop personnel.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture built on accountability and communication.
  • Communicate repair timelines, costs, and maintenance updates with operations, drivers, management, and other departments.
  • Hold regular meetings with technicians to review performance, safety issues, and workload.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in heavy-duty truck & trailer maintenance; 2+ years in a supervisory or shop management role preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of PACCAR, Volvo, D15 engines and diagnostics.
  • Prior experience with Fullbay software required (or strong aptitude with shop management platforms).
  • Strong understanding of DOT requirements for commercial fleets.
  • Proven ability to mentor technicians and build a positive, high‑performance shop culture.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
