Job Description

We Are Brookfield Properties:

At Brookfield Properties, our people are the foundation of our success. The Brookfield Properties Corporate team brings together subject matter experts who lead with confidence, adaptability, and resourcefulness. The corporate group works across all sectors of Brookfield’s real estate business – including housing, logistics, hospitality, office, and retail – collaborating with our best-in-class asset managers.

Efficiency is at the core of what we do. We seek to simplify, standardize, automate, and optimize—creating smarter solutions and maximizing value across every facet of Brookfield’s business. When you join the Brookfield Properties Corporate team, you become part of a high-performing, collaborative environment where innovation and impact thrive.

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join Brookfield Properties in Cleveland, OH or Chicago, IL. This role is a deeply technical role responsible for building the foundational infrastructure powering Brookfield Properties’ strategic initiatives: AI, ML, and enterprise-scale data platforms. Specializing in AWS, you will work cross-functionally with Development, Data, and ML teams to architect, implement, and support cloud infrastructure across multiple platforms. This includes AI/ML platforms, data orchestration (Airflow), and data integration pipelines connecting internal systems with external vendors.

A successful engineer brings a DevOps mindset into a multi-cloud environment, primarily focusing on AWS, to deliver resilient, security focused, production grade cloud environments. This is a high-impact role with broad reach. A typical day might include standing up a greenfield EKS cluster, debugging a stuck Airflow DAG, diagnosing a misbehaving endpoint in a distributed system, or optimizing a slow Redshift query.

Brookfield Properties is a dynamic organization supporting a myriad of technologies. This role presents a unique opportunity to gain familiarity with systems across clouds.

Role & Responsibilities:

Platform Engineering

  • Operate EKS clusters for production workloads including self-hosted backend platforms and Airflow

  • Build and maintain ECS/Fargate services for containerized applications hosting Agentic systems

  • Develop AWS cloud infrastructure using OpenTofu, following modular, reusable IaC patterns

  • Build serverless architectures using Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, and SQS

  • Implement CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions with OIDC federation and IaC orchestration platforms

Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with Development teams to architect and deploy AI/ML applications, including Bedrock integrations and LLM observability

  • Partner with Data Engineering teams to support Airflow infrastructure

  • Support development efforts with a shift-left mindset to help guide the organization into a shared ownership model

  • Troubleshoot issues across the full stack. Some examples might include database performance, an OOM Redis Cluster, or Terraform state locks

Development & Automation

  • Write production Python code for Lambda functions, automation scripts, data pipeline utilities, and internal tooling

  • Build and optimize Docker images for development and production workloads

Operations & Security

  • Debug and troubleshoot Linux systems, containers, and cloud services in both development and production environments

  • Secure cloud infrastructure with defense-in-depth principles: GuardDuty, IAM Identity Center, OIDC federation, and least-privilege IAM policies

  • Ensure system scalability, availability, and reliability through proactive monitoring and automation

Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership in architecture discussions and decisions

  • Mentor team members and communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders across all experience levels

Your Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in DevOps, cloud platform engineering, or SRE roles in enterprise environments

  • Some Python development experience: Ability to write and debug Lambdas or ETL code

  • Familiarity with AWS EKS

  • Strong experience with serverless technologies: Lambda, API Gateway (REST/HTTP APIs), Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS

  • Strong knowledge of core AWS services: VPC, IAM, S3, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, ALB, Route53, ACM

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code: OpenTofu or Terraform, modular design patterns

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab, or equivalent

  • Understanding of security best practices across the stack, from local development to production deployment.

  • Multi-cloud experience (Azure, GCP) is a plus.
