A Brief Overview

The Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant at UHCMC will initiate and maintain positive relationships with patients/customers/coworkers. They will also take responsibility for self-development and support the learning environment. All team members will display a commitment to the hospital's mission and values. The clinical focus for our Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant team members will be to create and maintain a safe and well-prepared patient-care environment, and they should function cooperatively within the limits of the Anesthesia Care Team, displaying thorough diligence and deftness in implementing the anesthetic plan. The Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant will also be expected to safely transport the patient to the Post Anesthetic Care Unit, serving as a resource person and knowledge source in the postoperative period.

What You Will Do
  • Interview patient and review essential data to verify patient readiness for anesthetic.
  • Assists in education of patient and family regarding the anesthetic plan and potential risks of the proposed anesthetic.
  • Prepares patient by starting appropriate access lines and initiating appropriate therapies preoperatively.
  • Prepares the equipment and drugs needed to perform the planned anesthetic.
  • Assists with induction, maintenance, and emergence phases of the anesthetic plan in accordance with the Anesthesia Care Team guidelines.
  • Ensures the safe transport of the patient to the appropriate post-operative area and provides for a smooth transition of care to the post-operative nursing staff.
  • Perform those functions necessary to establish and secure adequate ventilation, including intubation for patient throughout the institution as a member of the resuscitation team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education
