QED is looking for a hands-on Controller with exceptional accounting skills and welcomes candidates with progressive accounting experience who are prepared to step into the Controller role.


JOB SUMMARY

The controller position assists the VP of Finance in management of the company’s financial system and helps establish financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Responsibilities include financial statement preparation and management of accounting operations, including GL, AP/AR and other financial reporting. Additional duties include cost accounting, inventory valuation, project tracking, budgeting, analysis and forecasting. This position works closely with the accounting team as well as other departments. Interaction with production management and engineering team members to improve efficiencies and ensure proper financial and quality compliance is essential in this role.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage the monthly close process, inventory review, balance sheet and income statement preparation including variance analysis and reconciliations.
  • Assist with development of annual and quarterly budgets and forecasts, conducting monthly variance analysis.
  • Evaluate cost valuations, review variances, identify root causes and propose corrective actions.
  • Perform daily reconciliations and transaction analysis to ensure proper accounting.
  • Manage accounting operations and work with other departments to ensure policies and procedures are followed in order to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Maintain and track company assets, depreciation and disposals.
  • Safeguard Assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls and policies.
  • Comply with tax laws by studying existing and new legislation; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Review purchase requisitions and purchase orders for production and engineering departments and evaluate expenses as they relate to proper account classification, project tracking, budgeted values, etc.
  • Participate in year-end financial audit planning/providing information to external auditors.
  • Support accounting team and perform daily activities as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, MBA preferred 

8 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience


Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Possess a deep understanding of accounting concepts and how they apply to business operations.
  • Financial statement preparation and understanding of GAAP.
  • Proficient use of MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Office Applications, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency and a high level of personal integrity, dependability, and confidentiality

Preferred

  • Exposure to Manufacturing industry and understanding of inventory controls and standard cost evaluation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Exposure to IFRS (not required)
  • Understanding of R&D expenses, ROI and labor costs.
