CTL Engineering is hiring ODOT prequalified Inspectors for roadway/bridge projects, initially the large I-90 project in Cuyahoga county.

We are looking for ODOT prequalified Inspectors (asphalt) who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for ODOT bridge and roadway projects in Northeast Ohio. You’ll leverage your expertise in construction inspection/testing and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies.

Highlights:

  • This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager.
  • Projects are typically in the greater Cleveland/northeast Ohio region. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • This role will require frequent night shift work. 
  • Mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use (or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment).

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
  • Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects. 
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway and bridge projects. 
  • Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans.
  • Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
  • Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work. 
  • Conduct asphalt quality control testing at project sites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
  • Experience with materials and lab testing.
  • Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications. 
  • Experience with standard testing and observation methods.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents. 
  • Understanding of construction or engineering services.
  • Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing.
  • Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records.
  • Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision. 
  • Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments.
  • Must be able to interact well with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather. 
  • Ability to provide status updates independently.
  • Be quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Construction inspection experience on ODOT funded projects.
  • Extensive experience with asphalt inspection/testing, adhering to specs is required. 
  • Ability to work frequent night shifts. 
  • ODOT prequalified Asphalt Inspector II is preferred but not required. 
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
