We are seeking a Project Engineer - Structural with 5-8 years of experience to support the design and delivery of foundation and structural systems across a range of infrastructure and renewable energy projects. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and contribute to projects from concept through construction, with a primary focus on structural design for solar tracker systems, equipment pads, and site development structures.Â
This position is ideal for someone with strong technical fundamentals, work ethic, and a desire to grow into a leadership role.Â
\n- Participate in structural engineering efforts for utility substation projects including control enclosures, transformer foundations, dead-end structures, capacitor banks, and static mastsÂ
- Review project documents and develop structural Basis of Design (BOD), including loads, design codes, geotechnical inputs, and material assumptionsÂ
- Design and size shallow and deep foundations (e.g., spread footings, drilled piers, embedded posts) based on geotechnical recommendations and equipment loadsÂ
- Perform load calculations (dead, live, wind, seismic) and develop structural models using accepted FEA tools (e.g., RISA, RAM, STAAD)Â
- Coordinate with geotechnical engineers to integrate foundation performance assumptions and loading capacities (e.g., LPILE, MFAD inputs)Â
- Prepare structural drawings, elevations, details, and specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit for each milestone (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC)Â
- Coordinate with electrical engineers, control enclosure vendors, transformer manufacturers, and structure suppliers to obtain and interpret structural performance requirementsÂ
- Support client-facing meetings to present a design approach and resolve technical commentsÂ
- Review vendor-supplied structural performance requirements and incorporate into foundation and anchorage designÂ
- Respond to RFIs and submittals related to structural foundations, design assumptions, and special inspectionsÂ
- Provide input on internal design standards, templates, and QA/QC processes for substation projectsÂ
- Assist in developing resource plans, scopes, and estimates for future HV structural projectsÂ
- Collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams to ensure fully integrated substation site designÂ
- Stay current on relevant codes (IBC, ASCE 7, NESC, etc.), utility standards, and AHJ requirementsÂ
- Coordinate with internal geotechnical and civil teams for integrated designÂ
- Attend internal design meetings and client calls as needed to stay aligned with project objectivesÂ
- Receive mentorship from senior engineers with the opportunity to gradually take on more responsibilityÂ
- Participate in internal learning, development, and project closeout reviewsÂ
- While the focus of this role is in renewable energy, you’ll also support general structural engineering work, including:Â
- Analysis of structures for wind, snow, and seismic loads using ASCE 7 and IBCÂ
- Structural design for deep and shallow foundations (e.g., spread footings, piers, caissons)Â
- Design and detailing of framing systems and structural components in steel, concrete, aluminum, FRP, and masonryÂ
- Structural condition assessments and live load evaluationsÂ
- Coordination with manufacturers and development of foundation designs for prefabricated structuresÂ
- Construction support including review of change orders, submittals, and field questionsÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringÂ
- EIT certification required, PE in progress preferredÂ
- 5-8 years of experience in structural design, with exposure to foundation engineering, energy, or infrastructure projectsÂ
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with structural software (e.g., RISA, RAM, STAAD) preferredÂ
- Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI standardsÂ
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to learnÂ
- Willingness to travel (10–15%) for occasional site visits or field supportÂ
If you’re passionate about clean energy design, precision engineering, and turning data into impact, we want to meet you! Join us in shaping the next generation of solar and battery storage projects—and help transform ANS into the name everyone in renewables knows.
