The Staff Accountant I (Tax) is responsible for preparing federal and state income tax returns for private equity and venture capital fund clients. These engagements primarily involve partnership and corporate income tax returns, along with supporting a variety of tax compliance and reporting requirements. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with periodic reporting obligations, regulatory filings, and other tax-related deliverables required by clients.

 

This role works closely with clients, internal accounting teams, and other members of the Tax Team to gather information, resolve outstanding items, and ensure the timely and accurate completion of tax engagements. The Staff Accountant I (Tax) is expected to develop a foundational understanding of the Tax Team's processes, procedures, and workflows while building technical tax knowledge and applying fundamental tax concepts in the preparation of client deliverables.

 

Success in this position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, a commitment to delivering quality client service, and the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment. The Staff Accountant I (Tax) is also encouraged to continuously expand technical knowledge through training, professional development, and practical experience.

 

                    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

 

  • Collect and organize information required for tax engagements under the direction of the Tax Senior or Tax Manager.
  • Prepare detailed tax workpapers in accordance with firm standards, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Utilize tax preparation software to prepare federal and state income tax returns, as well as other required filings and client deliverables.
  • Keep the Tax Senior and Tax Manager informed regarding the status of assigned work, outstanding issues, and overall project progress.
  • Process tax filings, including the submission, monitoring, and tracking of electronically filed returns.
  • Maintain tax department filing and tracking systems, ensuring engagement documentation is organized, complete, and up to date.
  • Participate in special projects and other initiatives as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field;
  • Advanced degree (MBA or MSA) in Accounting or related field strongly preferred;
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is preferred and;
  • 0 – 2 years’ (relevant) experience in Tax Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
