Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode. Â

What You Will Do
- Provides technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned Mechanical Engineering projects and programs, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost. Â
- Participates as a team member to review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projectsÂ
- Contributes to Mechanical Engineering design plans and requirementsÂ
- Serves as Project Manager or Technical Advisor, on small-to-medium site Engineering projects, which may include the development of new or modification to existing systems and processesÂ
- Responsibilities include project development, budgeting, appropriation request (AR) preparation, contract management, electrical engineering, purchasing, construction, cost controls, quality controls, implementation, and start upÂ
- Develops Mechanical Engineering projects utilizing new technology to constantly upgrade and improve site safety, efficiencies, cost controls, quality controls and protection of the environmentÂ
- Participates with Operations and Maintenance departments and other Engineering staff in problem solving efforts to improve safety, efficiencies, cost controls and protection of the environmentÂ
- Provides technical and Mechanical Engineering support to assigned groups/departments at siteÂ
- Assists Operations and Maintenance departments with the implementation of new technologyÂ
- Coordinates project activities with Operations and Maintenance departments to facilitate project completionÂ
- Ensures appropriate documentation for assigned projects are prepared and reviews documentation for accuracyÂ
- Responsible for ensuring successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budget time and cost constraintsÂ
- Performs other duties as requiredÂ
What You Bring To Freeport
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering, ORÂ
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and two (2) years of related experience in EngineeringÂ
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mechanical EngineeringÂ
- Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusionsÂ
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautionsÂ
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazardsÂ
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with all phases of Engineering Projects for Industrial FacilitiesÂ
- Working knowledge of Pumping Systems as well as Hydraulic AnalysisÂ
- Experience on a mining and mining processing environment: Operation, Maintenance and Equipment
- What We Offer YouÂ
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $87,500-$120,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
