Position Overview:

 

The RF ASIC Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Systems Engineering provides technical leadership for the definition, integration, verification, and lifecycle support of RF ASIC capabilities within larger system architectures. This role serves as the bridge between system requirements and ASIC implementation, ensuring RF ASIC solutions align with mission objectives, platform constraints, interface definitions, performance budgets, and verification strategies. The SME works across systems engineering, ASIC design, RF design, hardware, software, packaging, test, manufacturing, and program management teams to translate operational needs into achievable technical requirements and to ensure the delivered RF ASIC performs as intended in the full system environment.

 

  • Ensure RF ASIC designs support system-level performance, interoperability, and mission objectives.
  • Translate system and subsystem requirements into RF ASIC functional and performance allocations.
  • Assess the impact of RF ASIC design decisions on overall system performance, integration risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Support verification, validation, and technical risk management across the full development lifecycle.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Serve as the systems engineering SME for RF ASIC-related technical issues.
  • Derive and allocate system requirements to RF ASIC functions, interfaces, and performance needs.
  • Manage RF ASIC performance budgets, including gain, noise figure, linearity, phase noise, dynamic range, power, and spectral purity.
  • Ensure traceability from customer needs through system requirements, ASIC implementation, and verification.
  • Evaluate RF ASIC architectures and support trade studies across performance, SWaP, reliability, producibility, and lifecycle cost.
  • Coordinate RF ASIC integration with antennas, RF front ends, converters, digital processing, timing, power, thermal, and control interfaces.
  • Define and manage electrical, mechanical, thermal, digital, and control interfaces impacting RF ASIC integration.
  • Support modeling, simulation, verification, and test activities to ensure system-level compliance and performance.
  • Identify technical risks related to RF ASIC performance, manufacturability, qualification, integration, and obsolescence, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Support design reviews, root cause investigations, production transition, and customer technical engagement.
  • Significant experience in RF systems, RFIC/ASIC development, or system integration involving RF subsystems.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements development, allocation, traceability, interface management, and verification.
  • Working knowledge of RF ASIC technologies and their effects on system-level behavior.
  • Experience performing trade studies and system performance analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate RF technical issues in a system context.
  • Experience supporting technical reviews, risk assessments, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs
  • Up to 10% travel, as required

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance required.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, communications, radar, EW, SIGINT, or space systems.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, requirements management tools, and verification planning tools.
  • Multi-domain knowledge, in particular systems, RF, software, and firmware
  • Hands on experience in system integration, engineering testing, and system performance characterization of embedded RF systems
  • Experience with environmental qualification, production transition, and lifecycle support.
  • Experience briefing customers or program leadership on technical issues and trades.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $127,500 - $236,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
