Position Overview:
The Afterschool Site Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for multiple before-and-after school programs located in elementary schools throughout the City of Clifton. Reporting to the Program Director of School-Based Clubs, this position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, engaging, and high-quality youth development programs that support the social, emotional, and academic growth of school-aged children. Â
The Site Coordinator oversees daily program operations, supervises and mentors staff, ensures compliance with all licensing and regulatory requirements, implements high-quality curriculum and enrichment activities, builds strong partnerships with families, schools, and community organizations, and supports the continued growth and success of school-based youth programs. Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership, Curriculum & Quality
- Provide leaderships and oversight for the daily operations of multiple school-based before-and after-school programs, ensuring consistent schedules, routines, and developmentally appropriate practices. Â
- Support the Program Director in implementing, assessing, and continuously improving hands-on learning experiences and high-yield activities aligned with out-of-school-time best practices and Boys & Girls Club youth development outcomes.Â
- Conduct regular site observations to ensure program quality and promote trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and inclusive learning environments.Â
- Monitor program performance and recommend improvements that enhance participant engagement and overall program effectiveness.Â
2. Licensing, Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable New Jersey Department of Children and Families (NJDCF), New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), and state and local childcare licensing regulations.Â
- Maintain accurate child and staff records, attendance, incident reports, and all required program documentation.Â
- Stay current on licensing standards and ensure staff consistently follow all policies, procedures, and mandated reporting requirements.Â
3. Staff Management, Coaching & Culture
- Onboard, supervise, schedule, and evaluate site staff to maintain appropriate staffing ratios and continuity of care.Â
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities that foster continuous improvement and staff engagement.Â
- Promote a collaborative, positive, and inclusive team culture.Â
- Model professionalism, integrity, accountability, and excellent customer service for staff, youth, and families.Â
4. Family, School & Community Partnerships
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with families through regular communication, conferences, and family engagement activities.Â
- Collaborate with Clifton Public Schools, community partners, and stakeholders to support student success, smooth transitions, and coordinated services.Â
- Represent the organization professionally within schools and the broader community.Â
5. Safety, Risk Management & Professional Conduct
- Ensure all program environments are safe, clean, welcoming, and well-equipped to provide high-quality care and instruction.Â
- Implement and monitor safety procedures, emergency preparedness plans, confidentiality standards, and facility maintenance practices.Â
- Respond effectively to emergencies, behavioral incidents, and other situations requiring sound judgment and timely decision-making.Â
- Complete all required trainings, certifications, and professional development activities.Â
Physical Requirements:Â
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday. Â
- Ability to occasionally run actively and participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities with children. Â
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Â
QualificationsÂ
Required:Â
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education, child development, human services, recreation, or a related field is a plus.Â
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a licensed childcare center, school-age program, or similar youth development setting.Â
- Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.Â
- Strong knowledge of child and youth development principles and positive behavior management strategies.Â
- Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.Â
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and establish appropriate professional boundaries.Â
- Ability to successfully complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, and health clearances.Â
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.Â
Preferred:
- Experience working with culturally diverse children and families, including youth with special needs.Â
- Bilingual or multilingual, with English/Spanish strongly preferred.Â
- Experience with out-of-school-time programming, licensing compliance, and quality improvement initiatives.Â
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 7AM – 9AM, 2:30PM – 6PM, Occasional evenings and weekendsÂ
Compensation: $30.00/hrÂ
